Utility Project Accountant (Transmission)

Location: Morristown NJ (Onsite / Hybrid)

Position Type: Full-Time

Experience Level: 2 years

Position Overview

We are seeking a Utility Accountant to support project and asset accounting across a dynamic portfolio of transmission projects. This role requires the ability to interpret asset ownership maintain data integrity across multiple systems and collaborate across departments to ensure accurate financial tracking and compliance. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in utility accounting experience with SAP and PowerPlan and a working knowledge of FERC accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards for Transmission cost collectors

  • Determine asset ownership and establish correct project accounting frameworks

  • Investigate and interpret asset ownership using client systems; report discrepancies and align records

  • Set up and maintain settlement rules for project accounting (OpCos voltage capital/removal/O&M)

  • Support financial forecasting by resolving project accounting issues and entering CIAC accurately

  • Create work orders and project accounting in SAP for newly approved Transmission Portfolio projects

  • Confirm proper accounting and work order mapping for each project

  • Run master data queries and ensure SAP and PowerPlan Master Data integrity

  • Request and maintain new project locations for accurate tracking and unitization

  • Conduct ad hoc accounting and work order research

  • Support monthly financial reporting and Transmission Forecast Tool

  • Collaborate with Transmission Business Services FERC & Wholesale Asset Management and Distribution

  • Review project accounting with Project Managers prior to execution

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Finance or related field or 2 years equivalent work experience

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office especially Excel

  • Utility accounting experience

  • Familiarity with SAP PowerPlan and Transmission GIS

  • Working knowledge of FERC accounting

  • Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills
