Were looking for a

Syndicate Accountant

Based in our London office and reporting to the Syndicate Finance Manager this role will sit within the Syndicate Finance team working on Hamilton backed Syndicate 4000.


The primary purpose of the role is to support all aspects of Group and Lloyds Regulatory reporting (reporting in US and UK GAAP respectively). Note the bookkeeping is outsourced to an offshore team based in India and this is a key relationship to manage.


The role will have one direct report based onshore.


Our ideal candidate will be someone with recent experience in a Lloyds managing agency or insurance company or someone from professional practice with recent experience of London market insurance audits or transactions.

Hamilton Global Specialty is our multi-platform specialty insurer operating primarily through a Lloyds Syndicate and Dublin operating company with a managing general agency in the US.



What you will do

  • Build of the trial balance and sign-off of key reconciliations prior to reporting to Group and to Lloyds appraising the Syndicate Finance Manager of any areas of concern
  • Oversight of the offshore bookkeeping team ensuring that balance sheet controls and day-to-day bookkeeping functions are carried out in an accurate and timely manner
  • Produce on a timely basis the input for SOX controls and upload of evidence to the portal
  • For regulatory reporting ownership of the production of core forms / core returns ensuring other departments contribute as required. Communicate findings for areas responsible for in order to enhance management review
  • Assist with the production of management accounts
  • Assist in forecasting results and cash flows processes that sit outside of the ledger
  • Key interface with external audit team
  • Training and oversight of direct report (Assistant Syndicate Accountant)
  • Liaise with other departments (Underwriting Actuarial Reinsurance) to ensure that processes are efficient and lead to the production of accurate results
  • Continually use the feedback loop to enhance processes

What you require for the role

      • 1-3 years post qualified accountant
      • Familiarity with insurance accounting and in particular the nuances of Lloyds reporting. Training will be given to cover areas the successful candidate has not had prior experience of
      • Ability to demonstrate technical competence and share that knowledge with the junior and offshore members of the team
      • Strong Excel Word and PowerPoint skills essential
      • Knowledge of SUN general ledger and associated Q&A (excel add-in tool) would be an advantage
      • Good communicator (verbal and written) paying attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines are key attributes in making this role a success
      • Strong presentation skills with the ability to convey complex information narrative and analysis in a succinct form using a variety of formats (charts graphs tables data and commentary).
