Correction Enterprises focuses on two main goals: providing technical and behavioral job training to offenders for successful reintegration and operating a self-sufficient business that simulates a real-world work environment all at no cost to North Carolina taxpayers.
The Enterprise Accounting department manages the financial operations ensuring compliance with State and Federal laws and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). It oversees the receipt disbursement and recording of funds maintaining accountability through the Controllers Office which ensures the integrity of financial data in the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS).
This position performs a variety of complex manufacturing accounting cash management and financial reporting functions. The primary purpose of this position is to provide financial reports prepared on cash and accrual (business module) basis to the users and to prepare Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFR) Enterprise schedules to the Controllers Office. ACFR considers Enterprise as a Special Revenue Fund. The financial reports include the income statements for 24 plus locations administered by Enterprise administration and reports obtained by the Enterprise Administration.
All financial transactions for these funds are recorded as prescribed by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Governmental Accepted Accounting Principles (GASB) Office of State Controller (OSC) and Office of State Budget and Management (OSBM) guidelines and the N.C. General Statutes.
This position supervises and manages employees engaged in cost accounting cash management and other operations/functions. This position directs the daily operation of Enterprise Accounting and develops non-standard reports requiring interpretation and analysis of trends. It provides solutions to various accounting problems and assists in system design.
Enterprise Accounting performs functions like ones in the private sector. It includes invoicing for goods shipped to customers maintenance of customer accounts (AR) collection of past due invoices recording of inventory movements development of product costs preparation of monthly financial and managerial reports. Prepares ACFR schedules for the Controllers Office. This section assists in the formulation of Enterprise fiscal policies and the enterprise system design. It provides necessary information for the external audit EAGLE Internal controls Program and other inquiries from Federal and State Agencies. The cash and accrued reports are prepared according to GAAP GASB State laws and Department Policies.

Bachelor s degree in accounting or a degree in business administration finance or public administration or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution with 18 semester hours of accounting coursework; and four years of professional accounting/auditing experience in the preparation of interpretive or analytical accounting/ financial statements and reports; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
