Job Description

If quality of education matters to you this part-time research assistant position is an opportunity to grow professionally while contributing to Alaskas K-12 classrooms. You will join a team of committed educators who care about equity students teachers and a large network of Alaskan educational stakeholders. You will have a front row seat to the behinds-the-scene work that goes into supporting teachers in Alaska in both urban and rural Alaska. ASMP has been in existence for 20 years is a value-added service to the state for which you will be very proud to be connected. Working for the University provides an opportunity to gain college credit earn a degree and perhaps become a teacher yourself! This is an opportunity for someone with a strong work ethic who genuinely cares for our youth and statewide education. You will be part of a bigger collective efficacy movement towards creating equity in the classroom. You will be the data-collector analyzer and one who helps demonstrate the value-added nature of ASMP.

The Alaska Statewide Mentor Project (ASMP) is a statewide service supporting teachers in order to provide a quality education with equity to all students in Alaskas K-12 classrooms. The VINE mission targets teachers with experience and new to Alaska while also exploring how teaching through culture impacts students Social Emotional Learning (SEL). ASMP has successfully worked with teachers new to the profession. Now VINE expands this work to include experienced teachers who are new to our beautiful state. VINE provides context for these new arrivals supports and guides them to more quickly understanding education in Alaska is a unique opportunity to learn while teaching. VINE also emphasizes place-based education underscoring the contextual need for these newly arrived educators to Alaska.

This position is a key support for ASMPs value-added service to the state. The opportunity to learn a variety of additional skill sets is limitless: research processes Alaska-specific context what it means to be part of a team that believes in collective efficacy how to maintain a growth mindset be flexible and mostly contribute to a cause greater than yourself. Data is an essential element to ASMP. Your record-keeping contributes heavily to future grant-writing and successful funding. Data is the backbone of our workthis position is key an essential position at ASMPto be taken quite seriously. Documenting research tracking data analyzing that data reporting on that data and helping nonresearchers If you could talk to those who have been doing this work for the past 20 years the majority will share it is the best job theyve ever had and because of the love of this work they do not feel like it is work. Most feel they are contributing to the future leaders in our state.

Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced environment. Strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to follow through on tasks and ask clarifying questions. Sound professional judgment and discretion capacity to maintain the strictest of confidentiality. The ability to plan and organize on both a daily and long-term basis. Ability to follow directions given by supervisors or co-workers. Ability to file and track information in a relational database. Attention to detail is paramount. Excellent computer skills with various software programs to include databases spreadsheets and word processing programs (Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint and Google).

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum bachelors degree in a science social science or mathematics field and a minimum of 1 year experience in science social science or mathematics field or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Proficiency with Google Suite apps
Advanced MS Excel skills

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha campus in Fairbanks and flexible on-site/hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a part-time exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary andfull employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options annual leave 12 paid holidays per year tuition waivers for employees and family members and affordable medical dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on theUA Staff Salary Schedule Grade 79 based on education and experience.
