Job Description

Position Overview and Responsibilities
The Yoon Lab within the Aging & Metabolism Research Program at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation is seeking a temporary Laboratory Technician. The Laboratory Technician will perform routine laboratory procedures according to standardized protocols and report results. Receives general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments. Receives regular supervision for most assignments. Supports team to achieve goals.

Expected to perform the following duties after appropriate training and time in position:
Performs routine procedures according to protocol may include but not be limited to DNA extraction processing blood samples maintaining cell cultures isolating RNA making solutions buffers reagents handling research animals etc. using standard techniques and/or complex lab equipment.
Performs other routine laboratory tests as assigned.
Keeps supervisor and coworkers informed of problems with lab procedures not effectively working or a mistake has been made.
Uses basic analytical skills to solve task-related problems including but not limited to literature searches compiling and verifying data.
Supports team to achieve lab goals established within well established procedures practices and protocols.
Maintains lab notebook in an appropriate manner of all tasks performed.
May organize freezers lab equipment chemicals reagents and/or glassware according to supervisors directive.
Assists in maintaining a safe and clean work environment in compliance with safety and according to federal regulations.
Performs other job-related duties as requested by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications
Excellent organization skills.
Must be team oriented personable and able to deal with diverse personalities.
Must be able to take direction follow instructions and keep meticulous records.
Must be reliable and self-driven with a high attention to detail.
Basic computer skills to include knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications
Entry level position however individuals with previous technician experience will be considered if previous experience included molecular biology (such as: DNA purification restriction cloning PCR site-directed mutagenesis and/or RNA handling).

Work Hours
Three days per week for approximately 3-4 hours per day.
