What are we looking for
Education and Experience:
Level 1:
- Associates degree in Information Technology Computer Science or a related field and
- 2 years experience as an IT professional
- Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Level 2:
- Bachelors degree in Information Technology Computer Science or a related field and
- 3 years experience as an IT professional
- Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: Kubernetes IBM WebSphere Oracle WebLogic and server lifecycle management.
Competencies:
KSAs required for the first day of work for Level 1
Knowledge of:
- Windows and/or Linux server operating systems
- Theory and practices of administering industry standard web and application servers (e.g. Apache Tomcat Wildfly IIS)
- Source control software specifically Git and Gitlab
Skill in:
- Developing computer scripts in Unix shell or Windows Powershell
Ability to:
- Identify and implement infrastructure solutions for load balancing SSL virtualization and web application firewalls
- Learn quickly
- Effectively communicate with diverse levels of management and stakeholders
- Provide excellent customer service
- Communicate technical issues effectively to non-technical individuals
- Work independently with minimal supervision and/or as part of a team
- Adapt to shifting business requirement
- Implement new technologies
Additional KSAs required for the first day of work for Level 2
Knowledge of:
- Theory and/or experience with administering containerized (e.g. Podman or Kubernetes) applications
Skill in:
- Continuous integration continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline development operation and troubleshooting complex system issues;
- Deploying and managing applications in a cloud environment;
- Securing and hardening web application servers.
Ability to:
- Manage servers with a command line interface;
- Evaluate and optimize network or system performance;
- Perform network or system design integration and enhancement planning.

What is this career opportunity
Join the State of Montanas Information Technology Services Division (SITSD) as an Application Hosting Administrator and play a pivotal role in advancing and modernizing state government technology services. In this dynamic position you will support a diverse range of application technologies across test development and production environments ensuring the reliability and performance of critical state systems.
As a successful candidate youll be responsible for:
- Managing and supporting web servers Java and .NET application servers and a variety of commercial software systems within a multi-tiered computing environment.
- Providing technical support implementation design software installation configuration maintenance and security services to SITSD customers.
- Monitoring tuning and balancing system performance to ensure optimal operation and user experience.
- Developing and maintaining scripts to automate administrative functions streamlining processes and enhancing system efficiency.
- Participating in an on-call rotation including occasional after-hours and weekend work to maintain high system availability.
