Job Description
Peer academic coaches are responsible for providing personalized interactions to assist students in successfully navigating the path to achieve their educational goals. Coaches also assist students at pivotal points in their academic career (academic warning/probation). Coaches support students in one-on-one and small group workshops and assist students with personalized plans regarding self-advocacy time management study skills stress management test taking strategies organizational skills and other academic success skills. Peer academic coaches work with students to identify and utilize campus resources and to develop short and long term goals. Coaches will work online and in-person with students based upon student need. Peer Academic Coaches are responsible for preparing individualized responses exercises and references to address student needs
-Ability to provide academic coaching in an organized manner and without close supervision
-Demonstrated general knowledge in subject matter
-Must be able to work with peers in a cordial and tactful manner
-Good written and communication skills required
-Dependable and task oriented
-Strong study skills and successful student habits and behaviors
-Self motivated ability and willingness to take initiative
-Desire to help other students learn and succeed
-Ability to work with students with various learning styles and needs
Minimum Qualifications:
-Currently enrolled part time or full time UAF student and in good academic standing
-Applicants should have completed at least one semester at UAF
-Familiarity with UAF systems and platforms including but not limited to UAF email Blackboard Canvas and Nanook Navigator
Position Details:
This is a part-time student position.
Starting rate of pay is $16.00 per hour.
This is a pooled position which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year.
