Queen Marys College is seeking to appoint a Curriculum Sports Assistant who is conscientious and keen to work closely with students in a dynamic educational environment. QMC is set on a beautiful multi-use site in the heart of Basingstoke covering approximately 23 acres. Its educational facilities cater for approximatelyyear olds.
The Sports and Physical Education Department at Queen Marys College is a strong well performing department that offers a broad range of opportunities both to study and participate in.
The PE facilities are outstanding. The PE Department makes extensive use of these facilities which includes a gymnasium indoor heated swimming pool a large sports hall and a fitness suite. QMC also has a 3G football and rugby pitch a sand-based Astroturf pitch as well as a rugby pitch. In addition the College makes extensive use of council facilities that include a synthetic athletics track water-based Astroturf pitch netball cricket and indoor tennis facilities. We have well-established links with the local community working with primary and secondary schools and external clubs such as Totally Tennis.
The Sport PE & Health and Social Care Department require support delivering teaching & coaching. This role works closely alongside the Director of Learning and department helping them to meet their collective aims and objectives.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Accountable to: Director of Learning
Key Purposes
To support the role of teachers to raise the quality of the students learning experience.
To support the Director of Learning with administrative duties and displays.
To be responsible for the organisation and maintenance of sports equipment kit and stores.
To organise sporting fixtures referees and transport.
To organise and reconfirm all venues for sporting events
To organise retrieve and set up sports equipment for lessons and events.
To assist the Director of Learning with coaching when required.
Committed to principles of promoting Safeguarding Child Protection and Prevent for young people.
An understanding and application of legal principles in the workplace such as ED&I H&S and GDPR.
To support the teachers on Open Evenings and other promotional activities.
Key Outcomes
Sports students at Queen Marys College will be better supported and overall student inclusion will be facilitated.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The successful candidate will be able to give a clear demonstration of the following requirements:
a strong interest in sports and sports provision
a good level of general education
a sense of humour and demeanour appropriate to working with children and young people
a commitment to the philosophy of inclusion
an ability to work successfully and harmoniously as part of a large multi-disciplinary team
an ability to understand and carry out reasonable instructions
an ability to use initiative
good verbal and written communication skills
an ability to adapt to a variety of challenges
a good level of general fitness
The following requirements would be desirable but not essential:
Has studied or is considering studying a sport degree
a variety of practical sports skills and a knowledge of the sport curriculum
an ability to coach a particular sport
an interest in post 16 education
good IT skills
