Job Description

UNSW is seeking a Research Assistant to provide technical and research assistance to the research project / team investigating the potential for tech-facilitated abuse via connected cars. This project is a literature review rather than an active practical investigation. The successful applicant will examine the technical privacy aspects of connected vehicles from existing literature with a particular focus on data extraction (i.e. privacy or the lack of it for the people in and around the vehicle).

The successful applicant will:

  • Have a good understanding of how to read and interpret technical literature in networks and communications with a focus on security and privacy.
  • Have specific knowledge of connected cars this includes havingthe technical knowledge necessary to understand what information the cars are sending and to whom (preferred) or a good technical background in communications and security.
  • Review the relevant literature on connected car security and help connect it with literature on tech-facilitated abuse.
  • Have good communications skills and the ability to report their findings to the team.
  • Attend research meetings and training sessions and take minutes.
  • Respond to routine enquiries relating to research.
  • Liaise with stakeholders in the preparation of ethics and grant applications abstracts annual and progress reports.
  • Undertake unsupervised research support tasks consistent with established methodologies (may include lab or field work).
  • Perform data collection entry and analysis.
  • Maintain research databases records and publication registers.
  • Conduct statistical data reporting.
  • Transcribe interviews.
  • Organise fieldwork arrangements if necessary.
  • Cooperate with all health & safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Completion of a degree.
  • Prior experience supporting a research project.
  • Strong level of computer literacy with strong skills in the use of Microsoft Office software and other applications or systems/databases
