Job Description

This is a non-tenure-track professional staff position with a Professor of Practice designation at the School of Law. The Assistant Dean for International Programs will be part of the senior leadership team with a focus on expanding international partnerships and programs for faculty and staff helping to create a more global law school community. The Assistant Dean manages a wide array of day-to-day administrative and academic functions pertaining to the Law Schools various international student and scholar services especially related to recruitment in the LL.M. in-person and online degree programs providing student and visiting scholar support liaising with St. Marys Universitys Center for International Programs to support students and scholars programming and vetting of international faculty research proposals.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain international student prospect files for the in-person and online LL.M. programs including application materials correspondence and preliminary degree plans. Adhere to the retention policy. Respond to prospect requests for information class visit requests and campus tour requests.
  • Maintain communication links and network with overseas program advisors and directors. Assist the Dean with exchange partner relations and international MOUs including tracking exchange balances. 20% international travel for recruiting.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Universitys Center for International Programs in advising international students and scholars on academics employment federal regulations and campus policies as well as support counseling cultural and social programming needs of international students.
  • Assist with pre-arrival planning and communication with new international students across all law school degree programs as well as visiting scholars.
  • Coordinate with J.D. Admissions and the Graduate Law Office to admit and register recruited international students.
  • Coordinate with the Universitys Center for International Programs to facilitate the issuance of I-20s and to facilitate the enrollment of prospects into the IEP program.
  • Coordinate with the University Center for International Programs regarding SEVIS processing and timelines and orientation activities for a portfolio of international law programs.
  • Assist with reviewing law school program websites and marketing materials for accuracy. Coordinate with JD Admissions Graduate Law Admissions University communications and third-party vendors on digital marketing campaigns as well as recruitment visits.
  • Teach Legal Research and Writing Introduction to the American Legal System and/or other courses as needed each semester totaling three courses per calendar year.
  • Manage the Visiting Scholar Program at the School of Law.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Law.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school required.
  • Five years of experience with international recruiting enrollment management or working in an international education office.
  • Experience teaching law to international students particularly Legal Research and Writing and American Law survey courses.
  • Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance.
  • Must have valid drivers license motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance; or have a self-reliant source of transportation to conduct business on a daily basis; Must have valid passport or ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
  • Must have experience supervising administrative personnel; there is one direct-report to this position.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong public relations and customer service skills with an ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times; an ability to work effectively with communities across the university.
  • Must have high ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality; ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines; thrive in a complex work environment; display solid problem solving and interpersonal skills; work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have strong self-judgment abilities and use discretion to complete work assignments. Initiative is frequently required to complete work assignments including policy interpretation and individual work priorities.
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate a capacity for leadership the desire to lead and motivate a team of instructors and administrative personnel and the commitment to work collaboratively with a diverse and dynamic community.
  • Must have a high attention to detail and be able to organize workflow coordinate activities balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in English is required; Multilingual Highly Preferred (language other than English with the ability to understand and to make ones self understood to non-English speaking individuals);
  • Must respond professionally to inquiries and provide services to students requiring academic counseling and advising.
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate advanced skills in MS Office (Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Must be able to work extended hours evenings and weekends during peak times and for special programs projects events and to travel domestically and internationally as needed. Be available as necessary for day and night appointments and programming to serve the needs of both day and evening students; and
  • Must be prepared and willing to provide leadership in a Catholic and Marianist institution committed to fostering quality education in a family spirit; the pursuit of service justice and peace; and the preparation for adaptation and change while encouraging each person in their own way in their formation in faith.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Working conditions are in an office environment and university campus setting. Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day to day business.
  • While performing this role the employee will be regularly required to sit walk and stand; talk and hear both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; and occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
