An exciting EL1 opportunity is now available for an experienced and strategic Assistant Directorto join a key government department. Reporting to the Director Financial Operations you will lead a small team across Treasury and Accounts Receivable Accounts Payable and Travel.
This role is ideal for a collaborative and driven leader with a passion for financial governance compliance and service delivery. You will use your expertise to shape financial operations drive continuous improvement and support high-quality decision-making within a fast-paced and high-impact environment.
Lead supervise and develop a team of Team Leaders and finance professionals
Oversee all Financial Operations activities across AP AR Treasury and Travel
Provide high-level advice on financial matters to the Director and senior stakeholders
Interpret and apply relevant Commonwealth financial legislation and frameworks
Maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Manage workloads and priorities across the team to ensure timely and quality outcomes
Conduct quality assurance checks on reconciliations journals and reporting
Drive business improvements and ensure policies and procedures are current and compliant
Prepare and oversee end-of-month financial activities and reports
At least 5 years experience in Financial Operations within government or a large organisation
Minimum 3 years experience leading teams or managing staff
Strong understanding of Commonwealth financial frameworks and legislation
Experience using financial systems such as CBMS TechnologyOne and Excel
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure
Excellent communication stakeholder engagement and leadership skills
Qualifications in Accounting Finance or Business (Diploma or Degree) preferred
Australian Citizenship required
Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance
