Position Summary

Supports a positive learning environment by providing additional education support to teachers and students while maintaining confidentiality.

Duties and Responsibilities

(These duties and responsibilities are judged to be essential functions in terms of the Americans With Disabilities Act or ADA)

  • Support and works with student groups with grade level material under the direction of a classroom teacher and/or reading interventionist teacher.
  • Supports Reading Acquisition and Core curriculum best practices.
  • Administer assessments and interpret results to identify student needs.
  • Records and reports assessment data; completes required forms reports and other paperwork.
  • Works with school team to discuss students goals and progress.
  • Attends professional development sessions and training programs to remain current in the field.
  • Communicate with staff and students to answer questions disseminate or explain information. Assist with communicating with the community under the direction of the teacher and school administrator as needed.

Education:

Two years of study at an institution of higher education or an Associates degree (or higher) or successful completion of the ETS Assessment (prior to date of application) required.

Experience:

Experience interacting with children individually and in groups in an instructional/educational setting preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of school policies and safety regulations required.
  • Knowledge of reading writing and mathematics required.

Skills:

  • Good oral and written communication skills required.
  • Basic computer skills required.

Abilities:

  • Ability to assist classroom teacher instructions required.
  • Ability to read and interpret the English language required.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff and students required.
  • Ability to be caring understanding and friendly towards students required.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students staff and parents required.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form required.
  • Ability to read and interpret school policies and handbook required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students staff and community required.
  • Ability to grasp position-specific software and proficiency in Microsoft Office required.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit use hands to finger handle or feel; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.
