Tooling Engineer
Burns Harbor IN

Full-Time / Direct Hire

About:

Were looking for a skilled Tooling Engineer to support our team with technical expertise customer interaction and problem-solving. This role blends engineering knowledge with customer service to help clients improve tooling efficiency reduce component costs and better understand how different steel grades respond in die applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop tooling for manufacturing applications.
  • Collaborate with customers to enhance tooling performance and reduce costs.
  • Troubleshoot tooling and part issues through analysis and diagnostics.
  • Maintain documentation and tooling records.
  • Perform FLD and TLD analyses to assess part capability and identify whether issues stem from tooling or material.
  • Recommend tooling or material modifications to ensure process capability.
  • Analyze die simulations and interpret results.
  • Travel to customer sites as needed.
  • Provide clear customer-focused communication during issue resolution.
  • Educate customers on steel grades and their behavior under different die conditions.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience in tooling design and development.
  • Solid understanding of steel types and stamping processes.
  • Proficient with CAD tools and design software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Skilled in reading and using precision measuring tools. (micrometers calipers gauges etc.)
  • Ability to identify root causes of part failure and implement corrective actions.
  • Able to interpret die operations part strip layouts and material flow. (with and without Circle Grid Analysis)
  • Capable of conducting and explaining Circle Grid Analysis.
  • Experience in project engineering is a plus.
