Reporting to the Chief Health Officer the National Nursing Lead is responsible for providing strategic leadership clinical oversight and expert guidance in the delivery of nursing services within the Immigration Detention Network.
This role will lead and support the nursing workforce ensuring the delivery of high-quality safe and efficient care in line with professional clinical and regulatory standards. In addition the National Nursing Lead will oversee the emergency management program ensuring preparedness and coordinated response across the network.
Key responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership and Workforce Advocacy - Represent nursing and associated clinical services at the executive and board level advising on workforce needs service quality and nursing priorities in organisational planning and decision-making.
- Professional Standards & Development - Foster a culture of continuous learning performance review and peer accountability.
- Clinical Governance and Risk Management - Uphold compliance with clinical standards human rights and service contracts.
- Workforce Management and Development - Drive nursing workforce planning recruitment and retention strategies to meet service demands across diverse and high-need settings.
- Professional Development and Capability Building - Support nurses at all levels to pursue continuous education specialisation and career progression across clinical management and educational streams.
- Emergency Management - Coordinate the development of an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) including emergency response and recovery operations for PHS.
To be considered for this role you will have:
- A minimum of four years of senior nursing leadership or management experience in nursing and/or health services ideally within correctional immigration remote or similarly complex service settings.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning change management and service transformation.
- Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
- Proven ability to lead and develop large diverse clinical teams in high-pressure environments.
- In-depth knowledge of clinical governance accreditation and regulatory frameworks.
- High-level communication negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed and human rights-based approaches to care.
- You will be a Registered Nurse with current registration through AHPRA and Postgraduate qualification in health management leadership or a related field (or currently undertaking).
