Job Description
The University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine seeks an Assistant Dean Curricular Affairs with an appointment in the Department of Physiology & Cell Biology. The Assistant Dean role is responsible for having an intimate knowledge of all aspects of the curriculum and meets regularly with the Associate Dean of Curricular Affairs Associate Dean of Student Affairs Medical Education Steering Committee chair Year 1-2 and 3-4 Committee chairs Longitudinal Block Directors Assessments Team and instructional faculty to provide leadership vision support and oversight of a non-redundant relevant evidence-based high-quality curriculum.
The position described above will carry an estimated 20-30% teaching effort with the remainder of time allocated to administrative and service duties within the Office of Medical Education in the role of Assistant Dean.
The proposed teaching will align with expertise in musculoskeletal and/or neuroanatomy with primary instructional responsibilities in the first-year medical curriculum. Ideally the incumbent would contribute to teaching in Block 4 (MED 634: Musculoskeletal & Integumentary Systems I) and Block 5 (MED 635: Nervous System & Human Behavior I) both of which serve approximately 70 first-year medical students. These blocks do not carry credit hours.
In Block 4 the incumbent will participate in six gross anatomy lab sessions and one practical examination. In Block 5 responsibilities may include up to seven gross anatomy labs five neuroanatomy labs and two practical exams. In addition to laboratory teaching the incumbent may deliver review sessions and selected lectures with specific topics to be determined based on interests and expertise.
The incumbent may also serve as a Block Director during the first- or second-year curriculum. As a Block Director would oversee scheduling coordinate faculty contributions and ensure alignment of block content and assessments with learning objectives.
Required Qualifications
MD PhD combination or equivalent with years experience in medical education including curricular oversight commensurate with appointment as Assistant Professor
