CURRENT VACANCY INFORMATION:

The Department of Corrections is accepting applications for a Juvenile Program Manager at Long Creek Youth Development Center South Portland Maine. This recruitment is open to Department of Corrections employees as well as all outside applicants.

Looking for a fulfilling and challenging career opportunity This position is as a Unit Manager for a housing unit at LCYDC. It oversees the functioning of the entire unit planning evaluating and coordinating programs for juvenile residents. It supervises multidisciplinary staff to ensure programming is accomplished as ensuring ACA and PBS standards are met. This is investigative and protective services work of a managerial nature in planning coordinating directing and evaluating programs policies and procedures for treatment of residents at a juvenile correctional facility. Responsibilities include implementing and interpreting residential procedures coordinating program activities and overseeing juvenile care and treatment programs. Work is performed under limited supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage a multi-disciplinary team of staff including Correctional Officers ensuring effective training performance appraisals and professional development.
  • Manage unit resources and provide input into budget development.
  • Ensure unit security and compliance with DOC Administrative Directives Institutional policy and accreditation standards.
  • Establish effective communication networks with unit staff residents Division/Department Heads Administrative Staff Community Services and relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to Counselors and Corrections Officers in case management and unit responsibilities.
  • Ensure continuity of unit security and treatment services on a 24/7 basis.
  • Maintain resident and unit records in accordance with institutional and DOC standards.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

  • Knowledge of applicable laws rules regulations policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of modern management practices principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of institutional rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of state laws pertaining to juveniles.
  • Knowledge of counseling techniques for juvenile delinquents.
  • Knowledge of juvenile disciplinary theory and practices.
  • Knowledge of correctional program development.
  • Knowledge of security techniques and methods.
  • Knowledge of community resources and agencies.
  • Ability to supervise subordinate personnel.
  • Ability to direct coordinate and evaluate the work of subordinate staff.
  • Ability to direct administer and evaluate resident programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to write clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to implement and recommend changes in institutional policy.
  • Ability to counsel juvenile residents.
  • Ability to maintain a secure correctional facility.
  • Ability to use applicable computer programs.

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS:(Entry level knowledge skills and/or abilities may be acquired throughBUTARENOTLIMITEDTOthe following coursework/training and/or experience).

An eight (8) year combination of education training and/or experience in Criminal Justice Corrections Social Sciences Psychology or a related field with knowledge of correctional or risk reduction programming including two (2) years of experience in a correctional environment (institutions or community corrections) and with correctional case management practices.
