Job Description

The UAA School of Social Work (SSW) is seeking applications for adjunct instructors who are interested in expanding their practice to include part-time teaching in undergraduate and graduate social work programs. We seek talented candidates the SSW can invest in provide training and mentoring to and establish long term working relationships with to enhance the diversity and practical experience of our collective faculty for the benefit of our students and programs. Adjunct Faculty assist in advancing teaching and service in addressing the elevated social issues in the State of Alaska.

Adjunct faculty will develop and deliver instructional materials including lectures assignments and assessments in accordance with program curriculum and learning objectives. They will provide guidance and support to students including mentoring advising and academic assistance. Adjuncts will be asked to work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds as well as promote the schools mission of engaging in decolonizing and anti-oppressive teaching practices while focusing on community engagement and a commitment to social justice.

To thrive in this role previous teaching experience is highly desirable as are strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage and motivate students from diverse backgrounds. Applicants must have experience relevant to teaching specific course content in one or more of the following BSW and MSW curricular areas: human diversity; human behavior in the social environment; social work practice with individuals families groups organizations and/or communities; case management; social work research; social work program evaluation; and social welfare policy. Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters student success and achievement will ensure a positive experience for all.

Minimum Qualifications:

A MSW or a masters degree in a closely related discipline is required to teach other courses (i.e. diversity policy human behavior research program evaluation).

Preferred: Doctorate degree in Social Work or a closely related field.

Position Details:

This position may be located on the Anchorage Campus. This is a part-time for credit adjunct faculty position. Salary is based on experience as well as the number of previous semesters taught within the University of Alaska.

Adjunct positions are hired on a semester-by-semester appointment. Successful acceptance into the adjunct pool does not constitute an offer of appointment nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available the following semester. Hiring decisions are made on a semester-by-semester basis according to the needs of the semester schedule and the needs that arise during the course of a given semester.

This is a pooled position which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year.
