Position Primary Purpose and General Duties:

The Administrative Coordinator for Student Advocacy is a critical member of the Office of Student Advocacy (OSA) team who provides comprehensive administrative support for OSA as well as case support services to students experiencing academic personal financial or health challenges impacting their well-being or success. The position reports to the Associate Dean and Director of Student Advocacy in the Division of Student Affairs.

This position evaluates incoming support requests or reports converts requests/reports to cases conducts outreach as needed and assigns cases to the appropriate advocate or refers them to external offices. This position also manages administrative operations through direct support and supervision of a student advocate team who provides crisis support and creates cases based on interactions via phone email and walk-in activity.

Qualifications

Minimum Hiring Standards:

- Bachelors degree in Social Work Psychology Education Public Administration or related field. Equivalent work experience considered.
- Empathetic and student-centered approach with a commitment to timely action and response.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Proficiency with Maxient case management software and Google Workspace.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect professionalism and civility with a population of faculty staff and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Hiring Standards:

- Minimum 2 years experience in case management student services or administrative support preferably in a higher education or advocacy setting.
- Knowledge of university policies and student support systems.
- Experience with conflict resolution or crisis intervention.
