GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
The School Nutrition Training and Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating training programs and compliance for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) School Breakfast Program (SBP) Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and the Afterschool Snack Program. This role ensures that all staff are well-trained programs are compliant with USDA regulations and that high-quality nutrition services are provided to students. The position also includes assisting with staffing challenges and providing direct support to the School Nutrition Supervisor and Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Oversight and Compliance:
- Manage the implementation and daily operations of NSLP SBP SFSP CACFP and Afterschool Snack Programs.
- Ensure all programs comply with USDA guidelines including meal patterns record-keeping and reporting requirements.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor program operations and address any issues.
Training Development and Delivery:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive New Employee Training Program for school nutrition staff focusing on:
- USDA meal pattern requirements for NSLP SBP SFSP CACFP and Afterschool Snack Programs;
- Food safety and sanitation practices;
- Meal preparation techniques and portion control and
- Record-keeping and meal claiming procedures.
- Provide ongoing training for existing staff including updates on USDA regulations best practices and program-specific requirements.
- Organize mandatory training sessions for NSLP SBP SFSP and CACFP sponsors covering topics like site eligibility staffing budgeting and financial accountability.
Staff Support and Development:
- Act as a resource for school nutrition staff providing guidance on program requirements and troubleshooting operational challenges.
- Hold weekly or monthly meetings during program operations to address issues share updates and provide additional training as needed.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment to promote staff engagement and retention.
Fill-In and Staffing Support:
- Provide on-site support to schools experiencing staffing shortages filling in as needed to ensure uninterrupted meal service.
- Assist with scheduling and coordinating substitute staff to cover vacancies or absences.
- Work closely with the School Nutrition Supervisor and Director to identify and address ongoing staffing challenges.
Program Marketing and Outreach:
- Collaborate with community organizations to promote participation in NSLP SBP SFSP CACFP and Afterschool Snack Programs.
- Develop marketing materials and strategies to increase program visibility and participation.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate records for meal counts attendance and program expenses.
- Prepare and submit required reports to state and federal agencies.
- Assist with menu planning to ensure compliance with USDA meal patterns and nutritional standards.
Reporting Structure:
- Provide direct assistance to the School Nutrition Supervisor and Director supporting their leadership efforts and ensuring smooth program operations.
- Report directly to the School Nutrition Director maintaining open communication and providing regular updates on program performance staffing and training initiatives.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- School Nutrition Management or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in school nutrition programs including NSLP SBP SFSP CACFP or similar programs.
- Strong knowledge of USDA regulations and guidelines for school nutrition programs.
- Excellent organizational communication and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in training development and delivery.
