POSITION SPECIFICS
The Stuckeman School in the College of Arts and Architecture at Penn State is accepting applications for a Shop Supervisor to join our team.
The Shop Supervisor is responsible for the overall safety and coordinating operation of the Stuckeman School Shop in support of teaching and research activities in the school.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Teach shop safety and varied fabrication methods using wood metal and other materials to students staff and faculty via formal sessions or one-on-one/small group consultations
Occasionally serve as a critic during class reviews or present a lecture/demonstration to a studio class
Manage and supervise work activities of shop technicians graduate students and undergraduate students; provide training as needed
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Stuckeman School Shop ensuring that facility and equipment are well maintained
Manage the Shops budget and make purchasing decisions
Maintain records such as user agreements shop orientation test results safety documentation
Investigate any serious accidents that occur in the Shop; fill out required accident forms
Design custom furniture cabinetry and other items for the Shop and the School
Create Shop policies rules and procedures which promote safety while providing a learning environment with flexibility for exploration and experimentation
This position will work onsite at Penn States University Park Campus. Given the hours of operation of the Stuckeman Shop the Shop Supervisor will be required to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Qualifications:
Wood and metal working experiences
Demonstrated commitment to a student-focused approach emphasizing safety learning and hands-on skill development
Highly motivated with excellent communication interpersonal and organizational skills
Preferred candidates will have prior experience working with students in academic settings and have prior managerial experience supervising technicians student workers or staff.
MINIMUM EDUCATION WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelors Degree 3 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: NoneStuckeman School houses three departments Architecture Landscape Architecture and Graphic Design and three research centers. Stuckeman School offers both professional and research-focused programs preparing students with the hands-on experiences critical thinking and skill sets. The Shop is an integral part of the design education and research in the school.
Additional Information:
This position will report to the Administrative Support Manager of the Stuckeman School.

SALARY & BENEFITS
