Job Description

Purpose of the Position: All operations inspection including Fabrication and Welding according to the ISO Program.

Essential job functions:

Inspection:

  • Receiving inspection of welding consumables
  • Inspecting and validating assembly fit-up and tack weld dimensions by Engineering Drawings
  • Visual inspection of completed welds.
  • Weld size weld length (continuous and/or intermittent) and weld type specified on the Engineering Drawing
  • Weld quality by Quality Management Procedures for Visual Inspection

Reports:

  • Recording inspection data on the appropriate ACSI Inspection Reporting system including documentation of the non-conforming process (should it be needed).
  • Review Material Test Reports (MTR) for incoming steel and welding wires
    • Verify material size specification grade chemical composition and mechanical properties according to the purchase order.
    • Initial and date the MTR and file it as per the official system.

Secondary job functions:

  • Replace or assist other workers as needed
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or manager.

Knowledge skills and abilities:

  • Read & Understand: tape measure calipers Engineering Drawings weld symbols and general shop testing equipment
  • Visual weld inspection
  • Understand ASW D1.1
  • Basic PC skills
  • English

Qualification Requirements:

  • Current or previous certification as an AWS Certified Welding Inspector- CWI certificate (highly preferable) or
  • ACSI qualification certificate based on one of the following education/experience combinations:
    • High school diploma and 10 years of inspection experience in structural or pipe welding shop applications.
    • High School Diploma 5 years welding/fabrication experience as a welder and 5 years inspection experience in structural or pipe welding shop applications.
    • 2-year welding Technology program graduate and 2 years of inspection experience in structural or pipe welding shop applications.
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with 2 years of experience in a shop or field welding application and general knowledge of welding and inspection.Physical Demands:
    • Environment:
    • Hours: 7:00 3:30 (additional hours as needed) Week: 40 Sitting: 5% Standing/ Walking: 95%
  • Weather: Hot & Cold.
  • Outside and Plant environment/Plant is not A/C. Dust.

Physical tasks:

  • Bending standing and sitting

Stress:

  • Medium

Performance Standards: criteria for evaluation in this position/measurement.

  • The ability to communicate effectively with and work with other personnel and customers.
  • Ability to perform work according to routine while maintaining standards of performance.
  • Proper operation of equipment.
  • Proper discharge of duties by the inspector will be measured in part by the degree of efficiency of performance as measured through visual observation and periodic verification.
