The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. We are one of the largest departments in Maryland with nearly 12000 employees and a budget of more than $1 billion. Budget Preparation and Management
Responsible for the formulation and preparation of the annual budget requests for the Maryland Correctional Pre-Release System. The request is prepared by analyzing past budgetary experience current trends and information from the Department of Budget Management and the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Office of the Secretary and Finance/Budget Office. Responsible for the preparation of the monthly projections which are utilized in making and monitoring expenditure decisions. Information from meetings with the Warden (Managing Officer) Assistant Warden and Department Heads are utilized. Department Heads are given expenditure information to monitor budgetary areas.
Responsible for the management and control of the overall operations of the fiscal office to include but not limited to:

Education:A Bachelors degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university or a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in accounting and related courses including or supplemented by 3 credit hours in audit
Experience:Four years of experience examining analyzing and interpreting accounting systems records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles.
Notes:
1. Applicants who had met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.
2. Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a Masters degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
3. Applicants may substitute one year of professional budgeting experience or one year of professional auditing experience for one year of the required experience.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Financial Management specialty codes in the Financial field on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

1. Two years of experience working with the Financial Management Information System (FMIS) or similar financial management system to process accounting data.
