Job Title: Acorns Wraparound Care Play Workers

Salary: Grade 3 (LA payscale)

Start date 1/9/25 or later depending on availability.

Hours:

  • Permanent Role:10 hours per week term-time only (38 weeks per year) pro rata
  • Casual Role: Ad hoc hours as required to provide cover for staff absences or increased demand

Contract Type:Permanent part-time or CasualStart Date:As soon as possible or by September 1 2025

Wincham Primary School is embarking on an exciting new chapter taking over the direct management of our popular Acorns before and after-school club from September 2025. This strategic move strengthens our commitment to providing seamless high-quality wraparound care that is fully integrated with our schools values and fosters a safe stimulating and fun environment for our children.

About the Role:

Were looking for enthusiastic and caring Play Workers to join our Acorns Wraparound Care Club. This role is perfect for individuals passionate about play who want to make a real difference in childrens lives outside of school hours either on a consistent part-time basis or with flexible ad hoc hours to fit around other commitments.

Reporting to the Club Manager/Deputy youll be an essential part of our team helping to create a nurturing and engaging atmosphere for children aged 4-11.

Key Working Relationships:

You will build positive relationships with the children attending the club their parents or carers school staff governors students volunteers and other childcare professionals.

Main Duties Include:

  • Activity Support: Assist with planning preparing and delivering high-quality play opportunities within a safe and caring environment.
  • Child Care & Safety: Provide comprehensive care for the children including safely collecting them from school and delivering them to parents or carers.
  • Environment Setup: Help set up the play space including moving furniture and play equipment.
  • Refreshments & Hygiene: Assist with providing refreshments and ensuring hygiene health and safety standards are met.
  • First Aid: Administer first aid when necessary.
  • Child Involvement: Consult with children and involve them in planning activities.
  • Administration: Help with club administration where necessary.
  • Parental Engagement: Encourage parental involvement in the club.
  • Communication: Facilitate good communication with all members of the organisation parents and schools.
  • Professional Growth: Undertake appropriate and relevant training to support your development.
  • Compliance: Maintain a healthy safe and secure working environment adhering to the clubs and schools policies and procedures and the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.

What Were Looking For:

Essential Qualities:

  • Experience of working with 4 to 11-year-olds.
  • Understanding the varied needs of children and their families.
  • Understanding the issues involved in the delivery of quality play care and equal opportunities.
  • Ability to provide and facilitate safe and creative play.
  • Good communication skills with a sufficient understanding and use of English to ensure the well-being of the children (as per Para 3.33 of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2024).
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Sound judgment and common sense.

Desirable Qualities:

  • Experience of working within a play-based setting.
  • Experience of administration.
  • Competent in using IT to support play and club administration.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Relevant qualification in childcare/playwork or willingness to work towards this.
  • Appropriate child protection training.
  • Current Paediatric First Aid Certificate.
  • Food Hygiene Certificate.
