The University of Alaska Fairbanks Community and Technical Colleges Learning Center is looking for experienced English tutors for our Writing Center. English tutors play a vital role in helping students obtain academic excellence in a variety of courses that contain written assignments. Not only do our English tutors support university students in-person and online but they also work with local high school students and the Fairbanks community. Positions are part time with a flexible schedule as well as tutoring online is available as needed by the CTC Learning Center.
The ideal candidate will have professional level knowledge in the proper use of English both written and spoken. Computer skills. Ability to analyze and solve problems. They will be organized able to determine priorities and meet multiple deadlines. Knowledge of office practices and procedures and the ability to recognize and work with various learning styles will enhance your success in this position.
To thrive in this position you will have excellent writing spelling punctuation grammar and attention to detail in a written work and well as a familiarity with using the internet accessing work email sending and downloading electronic documents and using word processing programs. Being comfortable with MLA and APA formats will help you excel in this position.
On a daily basis you will use your excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with students and faculty coach students through all stages of the writing process and guide students to resources online and on campus. Maintaining and preserving confidentiality and complying with FERPA guidelines will be a daily practice.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Successful candidates will have 6 months to 3 years (or more) classroom or tutorial experience or the equivalent.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required although a bachelors degree is preferred.
Position Details:
This is a part time position with flexible hours. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Temporary Salary Schedule Grade 77 step 1.
