About the role
AEMOs System Design Division is responsible for planning the power system in the context of unprecedented transformation supporting AEMOs mission of designing a sustainable energy system that provides affordable safe and reliable energy for all Australians.
As a member of the Senior Leadership team the GM Victorian Power System Analysis provides oversight of analysis for power system augmentation planning and connections in Victoria. The GM - Victorian Power System Analysis leads the team that is supporting VicGrid in designing Victorias future power system.
What you will be doing
Initially this role will have additional accountabilities as follows:
- Meeting AEMOs obligations in regard to planning and connection for the Victorian Declared Shared Network.
- Supporting transition and implementation of transfer of the Victorian Declared Shared Network Transfer to VicGrid. The timing of this is currently expected to be 1 November 2025. This will particularly include leadership of the team to support the transition and engaging effectively with VicGrid in the initial implementation of the partnership arrangement expected to be adopted.
Ongoing accountabilities:
- Provide strategic leadership to the Victorian Power System Analysis Department including overseeing operational performance guiding technical direction and fostering the professional development and growth of team members.
- Contributing to the broader System Design and AEMO activities and culture as an enterprise leader working collaboratively and constructively with the AEMO Senior Leadership Team.
- Delivery of power system analysis services for the Victorian jurisdiction (on a cost recovery basis) including:
- Technical advisory services.
- Input into power system development plans by VicGrid or other parts of the Victorian Government.
- Power system planning and operations input to service delivery and procurement activities.
- Act as the primary point of contact with VicGrid for planning of work and collaborative planning and delivery of the Victorian electricity system plan while ensuring the necessary capacity and support arrangements are in place to meet VicGrids power system analysis requirements.
- Ensure the team possesses the necessary skills and capabilities to effectively deliver the required power system analysis support arrangement.
What you will bring to the role
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in a related discipline or equivalent professional experience demonstrating expertise in power system analysis.
- Extensive experience in senior leadership role with in-depth knowledge of the Australian energy sector particularly within the Victorian Market.
- Proven experience managing technical teams within complex technical environments complemented by a deep understanding of the political legal and regulatory frameworks governing the energy industry.
- Demonstrated experience in leading change that results in market enhancements or productivity enhancements with strong project management skills to deliver initiatives.
