GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
To implement the mission of the Special Programs division with a focus on programs for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing by assisting supporting and providing technical guidance to service providers in school districts and child development centers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.- Provide consultative support technical assistance and program guidance to service providers in school districts and child development centers through training emails and phone support.
- Supporting Deaf/Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students and providers by analyzing and utilizing data specific to D/HH students.
- Participate in state and national events and boards related to the education of students with hearing loss.
- Participate in events and initiatives to support family engagement and early childhood hearing loss incidence and management.
- Provide support to the Special Education Programs Division for general supervision duties including monitoring and professional development.
- Assist in and support the goals mission and initiatives of the Wyoming Department of Education(WDE).
- Ensure WDE has state articulations to fully implement federal IDEA.
- Attend trainings and all staff meetings to understand the primary goals and initiatives of the department.
- Link district personnel to Wyoming Department of Education staff who can provide information on specific questions or needs.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
A bachelors degree in deaf education certified teacher of the deaf ASL interpreter speech language pathologist audiologist or other closely related field. Preferred: a masters degree and at least 5 years of experience working in the field of Deaf Education from birth through 21 years of age.
KNOWLEDGE:- The ability to communicate effectively with deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals demonstrate knowledge of hearing loss and interpret audiograms.
- Have basic knowledge of relevant technology including remote microphones sound field systems hearing aids bone-conducted hearing devices and cochlear implants.
- Know the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 with the ability to discuss Individualized Education Plan (IEP) content.
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills professional demeanor and appearance and the ability to maintain professionalism and impartiality when working with constituents.
- Must be self-motivated and capable of independent work (e.g. contacting schools scheduling appointments) while recognizing when to seek guidance and information from team members or the SPED division.
- Be aware of the responsible use of public funds and the knowledge of resources available at the Deaf/Hard of Hearing library in Casper.
- Competency with computer skills for email document creation tracking technical assistance developing presentations and setting up virtual meetings/workshops (Good Meet or Zoom).
- Physical ability to travel and a willingness to work collaboratively as a team player.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:- Office environment and statewide travel.
NOTES:- FLSA: Non-Exempt
