About the Position:
The City of San Bernardino is seeking fora self-starter able to work in a fast-paced environment. Parking Enforcement Officers are responsible for patrolling City streets and parking facilities enforcing parking rules and regulations writing and issuing citations and reporting unusual and suspicious activity.
Monitoring time-restricted parking zones and marking vehicles.
Issuing citations for violations such as expired meters red zone parking or blocking access points.
Responding to public inquiries and explaining parking rules and procedures.
Reporting abandoned or illegally parked vehicles and suspicious activity.
Maintaining accurate records of enforcement activity.
Operating a City vehicle and handheld citation device.
Performing clerical tasks and assisting with department correspondence.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or G.E.D.;
AND
At least two (2) years of progressively responsible public contact experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses Certifications and Equipment:
A valid California drivers license is required.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Employees occasionally work indoors under typical office conditions. Most work time is spent outdoors with exposure to noises vibrations odors dust fumes hazardous traffic conditions and potentially hostile situations. Work is performed in inclement weather conditions including heat cold and rain. While performing the duties of this job employees are regularly required to drive walk stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; transport materials and supplies weighing up to 60 pounds; talk and hear both in person and by telephone; use hands to manipulate handle and feel computer and other standard business equipment; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision the ability to adjust focus sufficient to read small print computer screens and other written material.
