Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

This position is responsible K-12 computer science curriculum development and program alignment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)


Design and develop a K12 Computer Science curriculum aligned with state standards district goals and industry best practices.
Create a comprehensive K12 scope and sequence that ensures progression and continuity of computer science learning objectives across grade levels.
Promote equity in Computer Science education by expanding access to high-quality learning opportunities for underrepresented groups including woman students of color and economically disadvantaged students.
Articulate clear pathways for students to transition from K-12 CS education into postsecondary options including college programs technical certifications and career opportunities.
Establish partnerships with technology companies universities and local community organizations to provide students with exposure to real-world careers in technology through internships job shadowing and mentorship programs.
Provide ongoing support for classroom teachers to implement CS related content into their classrooms.
Develop and deliver professional development opportunities focused on the integration of CS concepts at all grade levels.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports directly to the Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE).

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):

Required:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science Computer Science Education or a related field
Experience in teaching Computer Science within a K-12 setting.
Experience in curriculum development particularly in the areas of Computer Science or STEM education.
Strong understanding of K-12 education systems and standards with specific knowledge of Computer Science education frameworks.
Experience working with K-12 educators and providing professional development support.
Preferred:
Experience in designing or coordinating K-12 CS programs or initiatives.
Knowledge of industry-recognized certifications and postsecondary pathways for CS students.
Familiarity with various programming languages and CS tools as well as emerging trends in technology education.
Experience in building partnerships with industry professionals and postsecondary institutions.
Allowable Substitutions:
Experience may be substituted depending upon other qualifications.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):

Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State teaching certificate.

KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):

K12 Computer Science education frameworks standards and best practices
Curriculum development processes and instructional design principles for CS and STEM
Programming languages (e.g. Python Java Scratch) and CS tools (e.g. Replit)
Emerging technologies and trends in K12 technology and computer science education
Strategies for professional development and educator support
Partnership development with industry and postsecondary institutions
Equity and access issues in CS education and strategies to broaden participation in computing

SKILLS (position requirements at entry):

Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to engage various stakeholders including teachers administrators students and industry partners.
Passion for increasing access to Computer Science education and for preparing students for success in the technology-driven economy.
Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements.
Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting finger dexterity grasping talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts odors chemicals extreme temperatures inadequate lighting workspace restrictions and intense noises.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a general posting for one or more Teaching positions. Positions may be full or part-time and will be filled as specific openings are identified.

$72270 to $ 135542 annual salary (based on the negotiated collective bargaining agreementsalary schedule). Certificated staff work the school year contract with placement on the District and BEA bargaining agreement salary schedule. Placement on the schedule is determined by training and experience.


Medical dental vision long-term disability and life-insurance eligibility is based upon .45 FTE. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems.
