This is a full-time academic year position reporting to the Dean of Health Sciences and assumes EMS programmatic instructional activities for the needs and demands of the DSCC EMS programs. This position has a focus for the Dyersburg State Community College main campus; however official workstation may change from campus and center dependent upon needs and demands of the EMS programs. Duties include working with the Director of EMS and EMS Clinical Coordinator for coordination of student classroom and clinical field experiences. This position is pending grant approval.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To devote an equivalent of 37.5 hours of work per week
- Responsible for 30 credit hours of Teaching Load Equivalency (TLE) per academic year.
- Create a positive environment for learning.
- Develop evaluate and revise relevant curriculum in cooperation with colleagues; assist in the selection materials for teaching classroom lab and clinical activities.
- Assist in preparation of schedules and in selection of electronic course materials.
- Attend division faculty committee and other institutional meetings to meet the needs of students and program management as well the welfare and support of the college.
- Provide delivery of didactic material demonstration of psychomotor skills and verification of assessment skill proficiency in the EMS Program.
- Collaborate with EMS teaching teams and assist with setting up practice labs.
- Assist with the recruitment registration advisement retention and job placement of EMS students.
- Maintain lab equipment and supplies necessary for demonstration.
- Submit requests to Director of EMS for needed lecture and lab equipment and supplies.
- Maintain inventory of equipment videos software and supplies; provide an inventory to the Director of EMS at the beginning of each academic year and as needed thereafter.
- Teach a range of ages from Dual Enrollment high school students to nontraditional returning adults.
- Recruit students from area high schools and from the community to make DSCCs program viable and competitive. Propose changes to schedules to reflect student and community needs.
- Flexible to teach evenings/weekends and/or off-campus courses as needed (requires the use of personal vehicle).
- Practice a learning-centered educational philosophy and redesign courses to include research-based learning strategies including service learning opportunities learning communities critical thinking skills co-operative learning and reading across the curriculum.
- Develop web-enhanced courses for delivery in technology-enhanced classrooms/labs (such as Zoom rooms) online or in a hybrid mode. EMS courses are not online; however certain terminology and topics can be covered in online lecture videos that students can view prior to coming to class/lab.
- Become certified in and fully use the course management system for all classes ().
- Work with colleagues to assess the effectiveness of courses analyze the results develop and implement improvement plans and document this information each semester in the form prescribed by DSCC.
- Participate in professional development which includes a required review of effective teaching practices and maintain membership in an appropriate regional state and/or national organization related to teaching at DSCC.
- Participate in DSCC commencement activities.
- Assist with the identification interviewing selecting and mentoring of adjunct instructors.
- Willingness to acquire software certifications as needed.
- Actively communicate with colleagues and students using email voice mail text and other electronic means. Normally responses are expected in no more than 48-72 hours.
- Be trained and certified as a Master Advisor.
- Assist with grant writing.
- Participate in Advisory Committee meetings and student activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions.
- Work involves light exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures dirt dust fumes smoke unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of heavy objects or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate well in oral and written English.
- Commitment to teaching and providing quality education for students.
- Qualities of integrity initiative and good judgment with high ethical standards.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with individuals and/or groups.
- Demonstrates the ability to work and communicate effectively with both groups and individuals in a variety of situations and settings.
- Associate Degree from an accredited college/university.
- Current licensure as an EMT-Paramedic in the State of Tennessee and in good standing without history of revocation denial or suspension.
- Current endorsement as a Board-approved trauma cardiac and pediatric provider.
- Must have completed an EMS board-approved Instructor Coordinator course.
RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed emergency care experience of three to five (3-5) years practice.
- Minimum of one to two (1-2) years teaching experience in an EMS Program.
Pay is based on highest degree attained and years of experience.
