QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must possess a minimum of three years of successful teaching experience along with a Bachelors degree and a valid Virginia teaching license. Candidates must have a desire to become a school administrator and be actively pursuing a Masters degree or post-Masters certificate in Administration and Supervision from an accredited institution. The ideal candidate will possess considerable knowledge of effective instructional and behavioral strategies including best practices in classroom management and student discipline. A working knowledge of school laws division policies and regulations is essential. The candidate must demonstrate excellent communication skillsboth written and verbalas well as sound decision-making problem-solving conflict resolution and interpersonal abilities. Strong organizational and analytical skills are required including the ability to evaluate discipline and attendance data for program improvements.
DESCRIPTION
The Dean of Students supports the school administration by promoting a positive school culture improving student behavior and addressing attendance issues. This position involves daily supervision of students collaboration with staff and families and leadership in the implementation of behavior and discipline plans. The Dean assists with school-based leadership and instructional initiatives and serves as a visible proactive presence throughout the school environment. The Dean of Students plays a vital role in supporting both student success and school safety through responsive and restorative practices.

SUPERVISION
Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Principal and other designated administrators.
WORK CONDITIONS
The Dean of Students will primarily work in a large dynamic high school environment with daily student interaction and frequent contact with faculty parents and central office staff. The role requires regular walking standing and monitoring of indoor and outdoor school areas. Work may include occasional evenings or weekends for school events. Reasonable accommodations may be made to support individuals with disabilities. The noise level is typically moderate and the position may involve managing high-stress or urgent situations with professionalism and composure.
