Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Assist in the direction and management of the overall theatre arts program for the assigned campus; Develop student skills talents and creativity within the theatre arts program; Provide students with an opportunity to participate in curricular and extracurricular theatre art activities and ensure compliance with all state University Interscholastic League (UIL) TETA and district requirements. Plan activities to achieve district regional and state recognition. Assure high levels of achievement and learning for all theatre arts students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Bachelors degree in Theatre required

Valid PK-12 or 6-12 Texas teaching certificate in Theatre required

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of overall operation of the theatre program; Ability to produce a high-quality theatre arts program; Ability to manage budget materials and equipment; Knowledge of state UIL and TETA policies governing theatre arts; Ability to implement policy and procedures; Ability to interpret data; Strong communication public relations and interpersonal skills; Demonstrate knowledge of subjects assigned; Exhibit general knowledge of curriculum and instruction; Basic computer skills.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Program Planning

1. Compete in the UIL One Act Play.

2. Establish a very active HS Theatre Program with several productions each year.

3. Provide for participation at co-curricular and extracurricular events.

4. Assist with the management of the HS auditorium schedule and communicate with stakeholders about this schedule.

5. Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet the students varying needs.

6. Plan prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.

7. Establish performance requirements enforce academic requirements and verify each students eligibility to participate.

8. Assist with the arrangement of transportation lodging and meals for out-of-town events.

9. Attend all campus departmental regional and TETA functions as assigned.

10. Comply with federal and state laws State Board of Education rules UIL rules and board policy and fine arts procedures and requirements.

11. Assist with booster clubs and support booster club activities (as needed).

12. Encourage community partnerships that promote a favorable image for the district campus and overall fine arts program.

13. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.

14. Recommend policies and practices to improve the overall theatre program.

15. Support and actively encourage student involvement in the theatre program grades 6-12. This includes support for the vertical team middle school theatre program.

16. Follow the direction of the district Lead Theatre Teacher and the campus Head Theatre Teacher.


Budget and Inventory

17. Ensure that programs are cost-effective and funds are managed wisely.

18. Assist with budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.

19. Assist with fundraising activities and manage funds.

20. Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets at assigned campus.

21. Assist with the process of cleaning repairing and storing all department equipment.


Instruction

22. Assist with the development and implementation of plans for the middle school program and all other instructional assignments as part of the overall vertical team and show written evidence of preparation as required.

23. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.

24. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency board policies and administrative regulations.

25. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.

26. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

27. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.

28. Be present and actively participate in all instructional assignments.


Student Management

28. Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

29. Accompany and supervise students on trips as needed.

30. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.


Communication

31. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents students principals and teachers.

32. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.

33. Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor (evaluator) to include Fine Arts Director Campus Head Theatre Teacher and Lead Theatre Teacher.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent district and occasional statewide travel; prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor and indoor work.
