POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Special Services and in cooperation with the appropriate district supervisors teachers parents and students assists with special education evaluations and recommendations within the educational setting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage incoming referrals and assessment procedures monitors referrals evaluations/re-evaluations to see that all related forms and information is gathered considered and organized in the student confidential files
- Evaluate students referred for student services in order to assist in the establishment of an IEP as appropriate.
- Function as a case manager coordinating the collection of all pertinent information in the special education evaluation process.
- Document student deficits and their impact on the students educational performance including interviews with parents in order to provide appropriate services for the student.
- Write accurate reports state apparent needs and strengths of individual students review psychological reports with a multi-disciplinary team make recommendations for the student.
- Participate as a multi-disciplinary team member to plan implement and evaluate the individual educational program.
- Initiate and coordinate transmittal of records to appropriate parents or guardians and to staff to ensure compliance and in accordance with records retention guidelines.
- Demonstrate positive relationship skills with students parents and district staff maintaining ongoing and open communication including ensuring that due process rights are explained in the familys native language.
- Implement and comply with District policies and procedures
- Perform appropriate tasks as designated by the supervisor in relation to the responsibilities listed above
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Be eligible for Conditional ESA Certificate according to OSPIs requirements:
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Knowledge of assessment and evaluation techniques
- Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS)
- Knowledge of childhood social emotional physical and academic development
- Knowledge of Section 504 IDEA and other state and federal regulations regarding the identification and placement of students in special education
- Knowledge of community support resources and family service agencies
- Knowledge of legal ethical and professional issues in K-12 schools
- Skills in managing and promoting positive student behavior
- Skills and abilities in organization flexible scheduling time management and record keeping
- Ability to conduct analyze and effectively utilize a variety of assessment tools and techniques applicable to the student with learning behavioral neurological emotional and other disabilities
- Ability to collaborate communicate effectively and problem solve with other professionals in a team setting
- Ability to interact positively and effectively with parents students staff and administrators
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and high level of discretion.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand walk and sit frequently or for prolonged periods of time. Additionally physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling stooping/crouching reaching/handling/fingering talking/hearing conversations and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision.
