Job Description

Description:

Seeking a dynamic and passionate Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher to join Alexandria City Public Schools. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in family and consumer sciences education and a commitment to fostering students personal academic and career development.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred.
  • Certificates & Licenses:
  1. Valid Virginia Department of Education license required with endorsement in Culinary Arts or Family and Consumer Science area or eligibility to obtain one.
  2. ServSafe and Food Handling Certification preferred.

Other Qualifications

  • Must have at least two years of experience in the culinary arts area.
  • Must have the knowledge and experience to systematically plan execute and evaluate individual and group instruction.
  • Must be able to organize and manage appropriate classroom instruction.
  • Must possess excellent organizational communications public relations and planning skills.
  • The ability to work independently and accomplish established instructional objectives during the school year is essential.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships and work in a collaborative manner with administrators supervisors co-workers and parents.
  • Must be knowledgeable of innovative nontraditional teaching strategies that have proven successful with students from diverse backgrounds performing at different academic levels.
  • Some experience with Microsoft Office online learning management software Internet and Intranet is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging curriculum aligned with Virginia state standards for Family and Consumer Sciences at thehigh school level.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports students individual growth and development.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies including hands-on activities labs and technology to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Foster students leadership skills through participation in school-based or virtual enterprises job shadowing internships cooperative education and/or the Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).
  • Provide opportunities for students to explore personal and career goals financial management clothing maintenance food preparation positive relationships and self-assessment.
  • Integrate mathematics science English social sciences fine arts and technology into Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote cross-curricular connections and enhance student learning experiences.
  • Assess student progress and provide timely feedback to support their academic growth and achievement.
  • Participate in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in family and consumer sciences education.
  • Communicate effectively with students parents and other stakeholders to support students success in the classroom and beyond.

Clearances:

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.

Public Health Compliance

  • Must follow safety and health protocols
