Description:
Seeking a dynamic and passionate Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher to join Alexandria City Public Schools. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in family and consumer sciences education and a commitment to fostering students personal academic and career development.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred.
- Certificates & Licenses:
- Valid Virginia Department of Education license required with endorsement in Culinary Arts or Family and Consumer Science area or eligibility to obtain one.
- ServSafe and Food Handling Certification preferred.
Other Qualifications
- Must have at least two years of experience in the culinary arts area.
- Must have the knowledge and experience to systematically plan execute and evaluate individual and group instruction.
- Must be able to organize and manage appropriate classroom instruction.
- Must possess excellent organizational communications public relations and planning skills.
- The ability to work independently and accomplish established instructional objectives during the school year is essential.
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships and work in a collaborative manner with administrators supervisors co-workers and parents.
- Must be knowledgeable of innovative nontraditional teaching strategies that have proven successful with students from diverse backgrounds performing at different academic levels.
- Some experience with Microsoft Office online learning management software Internet and Intranet is required.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging curriculum aligned with Virginia state standards for Family and Consumer Sciences at thehigh school level.
- Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports students individual growth and development.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies including hands-on activities labs and technology to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Foster students leadership skills through participation in school-based or virtual enterprises job shadowing internships cooperative education and/or the Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).
- Provide opportunities for students to explore personal and career goals financial management clothing maintenance food preparation positive relationships and self-assessment.
- Integrate mathematics science English social sciences fine arts and technology into Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum.
- Collaborate with colleagues to promote cross-curricular connections and enhance student learning experiences.
- Assess student progress and provide timely feedback to support their academic growth and achievement.
- Participate in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in family and consumer sciences education.
- Communicate effectively with students parents and other stakeholders to support students success in the classroom and beyond.
Clearances:
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
- Tuberculosis Skin Test.
Public Health Compliance
- Must follow safety and health protocols
