About the Job:

The Program Cooks role is to complete purchase prepare and deliver food products clean kitchen facilities and maintain sanitary standards in compliance with USDA guidelines sanitation safety rules and procedures.

About MountainStar Family Relief Nursery:

MountainStar Family Relief Nursery is a local non-profit that has been in Central Oregon for 20 plus years. We are a strength-based child abuse and neglect prevention program to support families with children ages 6 weeks through 5 years. We provide high quality trauma-informed care and services for children and families experiencing high stress. Services include a therapeutic classroom emphasizing social-emotional development home visits parenting classes and other full wrap around services.

Requirements

About the Role:

Preparing a variety of foods that are culturally and age appropriate.

Purchasing preparation and inventory process.

Maintain food service records and other documentation in compliance with USDA regulations.

Delivering food service in a safe healthy and timely manner with the least disruption to the classroom.

Ensuring food quality by checking for proper temperature of food.

Food bank pickup depending on need.

Ensuring that the environment for food preparation and service is maintained in a sanitary condition.

Keeping the kitchen and storage areas clean and safe such as dishwashing and kitchen cleaning up.

Maintaining record of food used daily.

Continually apply safety practices in all aspects of the performance of duties by complying with agency safety standards.

Supporting participation in a safe environment.

Immediately reporting any unsafe or hazardous working conditions and/or any injury.

Participating in fire drills and assisting in the evacuation of children.

Support fellow program staff with classroom support during daily scheduled lunches.

Other duties as assigned.


Physical Demands Background Driving and Training Requirements:

Must have food handlers card or be able to obtain one immediately upon employment.

Within 60 days of employment must be Pediatric CPR and First aid certified and show proof of completing Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect course as required by Oregon Office of Childcare.

Knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures as well as kitchen equipment operations.

Ability to pass a background check.

Valid drivers license and reliable personal transportation.

Clean driving record to drive company vehicles.

May work outdoors intermittently with exposure to typical Oregon weather. There may be frequent interruptions working alone evening or weekend work working long hours during peak periods.

Must be able to pick up and carry 50 pounds. Must be able to bend kneel and stand for long lengths of time.

Continual interaction with co-workers parents and children to provide information.


What Youre Skilled At:

Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Ability to work and relate positively with children and adults.

Ability to work independently and as a part of a team conflict resolution skills are beneficial.

Genuine interest in building knowledge about early childhood brain development trauma and other topics relevant to MountainStars mission.

Energetic and forward-looking thinker who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions.

Consistent attendance is essential for both the smooth operation of our programs as well as fostering a sense of stability for the children and families we serve.


Salary Range Benefits:

This is a 24-hour per week position starting at $19.00/hr. depending on experience and qualifications wage differential if bilingual. To protect confidentiality at MtStar there is a standard procedure requiring at least a 2-year separation between being a program participant and serving as a staff member or volunteer within the organization. All staff and volunteer roles are at the discretion of MountainStar. All positions at MountainStar Family Relief Nursery are contingent upon the availability of funding.
