Your role and responsibilities
As a Senior Engineer in our Transport Strategy team youll lead a small group of Engineers and Technicians responsible for inspecting developer-funded highway schemes. Youll ensure that all works meet national and Suffolk County Council design standards and specifications and that records are accurately maintained for highway improvement and adoption.
Youll manage the delivery of s38 and s278 agreements under the Highways Act negotiating technical solutions for road layouts junctions drainage and lighting. Youll also ensure compliance with CDM regulations health and safety legislation and traffic management requirements.
Your leadership will extend to mentoring junior staff conducting performance reviews and supporting recruitment. Youll also represent the Highway Authority at public and planning meetings and collaborate closely with planning and technical approval teams to ensure high-quality infrastructure delivery.
Your work will be based around the construction for the new nuclear power station Sizewell C in Suffolk.

The team
This role sits within the Transport Strategy Team part of the Growth Highways and Infrastructure Directorate at SCC. The team is responsible for advancing Inclusive Growth through transport initiatives across Suffolk. Youll work closely with colleagues in project management planning and highways who support the delivery of Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs).
Youll be part of a supportive inclusive and dynamic team environment engaging with a challenging and varied workload tied to high-profile construction projects. The role offers access to regular technical presentations a wide range of learning opportunities and support for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and professional accreditation.
