Peatland Action Programme Support Grade: B Vacancy type: Permanent Hours: 35 Salary 27940 (pay award pending effective 01 April 2025) Location: Any NatureScot office considered (Home and hybrid working will also be considered) Closing date: midnight 7th July 2025 Internal interviews: 22nd July External Interviews: 5th August 2025.

Context

NatureScots Peatland programme delivers actions to care for Scotlands peatlands. It is integral to the governments determination for peatland protection restoration and management to reduce carbon emissions and contribute wider benefits for biodiversity water management and green growth. The Peatland Programme covers the requirements under the Scottish Government ring-fenced Peatland ACTION support for restoration and the wider NatureScot work on valuing protecting and managing peatlands.

NatureScot has dual role on Peatland ACTION:

  • providing leadership on shared services/business solutions across all five Peatland ACTION delivery partners (NatureScot the two National Parks Forestry & Land Scotland and Scottish Water); and
  • increasing the pace/scale of peatland restoration projects on the ground.

The NatureScot Peatland ACTION role is expanding in support of the governments 10 year 250m commitment for has an annual budget of 20m and comprises over 60 posts employed/supported by NatureScot.

Job Purpose Summary:

The main purpose of this post is to provide efficient governance and coordination support to the NatureScot Peatland ACTION Team. The job holder will be expected on occasion to travel to the events and this may involve overnight stays.

The post holder will support the Peatland ACTION programme with underpinning administrative tasks across the breadth of its functions.

The post sits within the Peatland ACTION Coordination & Governance Team. It requires working within a fast-paced environment with multiple lines of responsibility from supporting Peatland ACTION Project Officers requirements to wider Peatland ACTION Programme needs such as financial planning and reporting.

The post holder should be able to work independently and manage and prioritise their workload. Theywill also need to liaise in a professional manner with a very wide range of stakeholders.

The post is managed by the peatland ACTION Programme Administrator

Areas of Responsibility:

  1. Assisting Peatland Action GovCo team with managing the digital enquiries and assets including managing shared inboxes Teams Channels digital files etc. for the project including coordinating and recording enquiries and responses. This will include responding to enquiries on occasion provide support by filing enquiries and responses on NatureScots Electronic Record Management systems.
  2. Assist in updating and maintaining mailing lists and generating and sending mailshots to a range of stakeholders including contractors training lists consultations etc.
  3. Raise Purchase Orders and process invoices for payment.
  4. Make routine arrangements and bookings for Peatland ACTION Programme needs such as in-person and virtual meetings (including parties external to NatureScot) overnight accommodation for staff travel and hospitality in accordance with clear instructions involving the preparation and organisation of straightforward information along with note / action taking as and when required.
  5. Be responsible for the day-to-day operation of systems and equipment necessary for the successful completion of Peatland ACTION staffs tasks for example purchasing and maintaining equipment and PPE inventories for our staff needs and ensure they remain fit for purpose.
  6. Check Travel & Subsistence and provide general support to the Peatland Action Team Managers and their teams.
  7. Contribute to ongoing reviews of systems and procedures with a view to improving service and efficiency.
  8. Support management of the Peatland ACTION page on the intranet.
  9. Given the dynamic nature of Peatland ACTION respond to additional requests for support as sized /prioritised by the Programme Administrator.

Role Requirements:

  1. Demonstrate the competencies required for this role gained through working in a similar role or a formal administrative qualification.
  2. The candidate should enjoy working in a busy evolving and challenging environment and demonstrate an understanding of working within a multi-organisation programme.
  3. Demonstrate accuracy with both numeracy and literacy skills.
  4. Excellent attention to details and organisational skills and being able to follow guidelines.
  5. Good communication skills (written and verbal) with a general understanding of GDPR requirements.
  6. Ability to manage a busy and varied workload with tight deadlines.
  7. Proficiency in the use of MS Teams EXCEL and Word.
  8. Effective planning organising and prioritising and familiarity with own priorities and those of colleagues.
  9. Demonstrate customer service / interpersonal / team working skills.

Pre-requisites Required:

  • To undertake a Disclosure Scotland application.
  • Although Gaelic language is not a prerequisite it is a desirable skill in support of our commitment to our Gaelic Language Plan.
  • A driving licence or some other means of transport is desirable.
