Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Naperville IL
Our client a leading manufacturer in the audio-visual (AV) hardware industry is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their innovative engineering team. This role is ideal for a hands-on mechanical engineer with a deep understanding of design-for-manufacturing principles especially within the context of electromechanical systems and robust product development.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design development and testing of mechanical and electromechanical AV products.
- Drive projects from concept through production ensuring cost-efficiency durability and performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals timelines and design specifications.
- Evaluate and improve existing designs for cost reduction and reliability.
- Perform structural and thermal simulations (FEA/CFD) using SolidWorks.
- Develop and execute Design Assurance Test Plans (DATP).
- Apply principles of mechanics thermodynamics vibration analysis and material science to solve design challenges.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (UL ADA ISO 9001/14000).
- Support international and domestic projects with occasional travel.
- Mentor junior engineers and support team training.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 10 years of experience in mechanical design and manufacturing.
- Strong background in: Sheet metal plastic molding extrusions tubing castings
- Product development in outdoor or rugged environments
- Electromechanical system design
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling Simulation and Flow)
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (IFS and Acumatica experience a plus)
- Excellent communication leadership and project management skills
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed

Great to have: AVPro Edge and Visionary Solutions for VoIP / switchers Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with AV equipment Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP networking, switches, routers, firewalls are preferred. Advanced working knowledge of computers (Windows-based) and software. Maintain a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and embrace a team-centric environment. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents including product specifications, wiring diagrams, and architectural drawings. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive customer inquiries or complaints. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. Valid driver s license with minimum 3-year clean driving record. Infocomm CTS certification (within 6 months of employment start) & CTS-I within 12 months Maintain and/or acquire OSHA 10 Hr construction within 3 months from employment start.
