We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Intern to support our Professional Services Lead Accountant with financial reporting and administrative tasks throughout the summer. This is a non-paid internship.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting Support
- Prepare draft schedules for monthly project revenue and cost of revenue pulling data from Thor project transactions and invoicing modules.
- Build and update Excel workbooks (including pivot tables and basic Power Pivot models) to analyze trends in work-in-progress deferred revenue and unbilled receivables.
- Reconcile balance-sheet accounts (e.g. WIP deferred revenue accrued revenue) by matching project billing activity to general-ledger transactions and flagging variances for review.
- Documentation & Month-End Close Coordination
- Gather and organize supporting documentation (customer contracts project timesheets contractor invoices) needed to substantiate month-end journal entries.
- Maintain the month-end close checklist track completion of key tasks (journal entries accruals allocations) and send timely reminders to stake holders.
- Archive closed-period files in SharePoint or the finance drive ensuring all backup is indexed and easily retrievable for internal and external audits.
- Meeting & Action-Item Follow-Up
- Attend the Professional Services monthly review meeting take detailed minutes of discussion points and assigned action items then circulate a consolidated action-item tracker.
- Proactively follow up with team members on open items (e.g. missing time reports approval of manual journals) updating status and escalations as needed.
- Data Entry & Record Maintenance
- Review project transactions (time entries expenses billing adjustments) in the ERP or project accounting system ensuring correct coding to revenue COGS and cost centers.
- Review and index external documents (customer POs vendor invoices) in the finance document-management system and ensure proper tagging them for easy retrieval.
- Ad-Hoc Projects & Process Improvements
- Support initiatives to streamline the month-end close such as by documenting how-to guides building simple reconciliation templates or testing new ERP features.
- Contribute to special analyses (e.g. profitability by service type contractor cost trends utilization rates) that help the Lead Accountant and FP&A team refine forecasts and identify efficiency opportunities.
