About us

The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response including road crash rescue bushfire hazardous material technical and vertical rescue severe weather incidents remote and swiftwater rescue and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.

The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR) Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt prevent mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state.

The QFD is an organisation that is committed to reframing the departments relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples communities and organisations through activities identified in the QFD Reframing the Relationship Plan contributing to Closing the Gap outcomes and building our cultural capability.

Purpose of the role

The Relations and Standards branch strives to ensure QFDs workforce upholds the highest levels of professional and ethical standards as is expected of the Queensland Government and the community. It achieves this through several mechanisms including managing workplace complaints conducting high-level and complex disciplinary investigations and proactively identifying and providing advice on conduct related matters. A program of work has been established to facilitate and oversee the implementation of the Complaints Management System (CMS) Review recommendations by December 2026. This program seeks to improve the departments approach to complaints handling and providing support to complainants subject officers and those involved throughout the complaints management process.

Reporting to the Director you will demonstrate high-level project coordination skills to support the delivery of the program of work to improve the departments approach to complaints handling. You will provide high-level administrative and secretariat support and contribute to the development of strategies and tools to coordinate project plans activities and progress reporting. You will work closely with the project team and key stakeholders to plan design and develop frameworks policies and procedures aimed at enhancing QFD complaints management that meets departmental and legislative requirements.

  • Knowledge and experience in project management methodologies.
  • Knowledge of organisational change management principles.
  • Knowledge or experience in human resources employee relations or complaints management or qualifications in these fields will be favourably regarded.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work including but not limited to:

  • Assist in the implementation of CMS review recommendations through the design and implementation of innovative approaches departmental policy procedures and supporting documentation to support organisational design and business improvement activities.
  • Analyse and evaluate change management activities to ensure alignment with organisational requirements in accordance with best practice project methodologies and government frameworks.
  • Provide high-level timely and independent advice to program leadership and key stakeholder groups regarding progress of projects to support organisational development and transformational activities.
  • Conduct research and analysis to prepare and develop relevant project documentation plans and process and ensure program objectives and deliverables are achieved.
  • Prepare internal communications and written project status updates and reports on outcomes in accordance with departmental requirements.
  • Provide administrative and secretariat including review and collating meeting papers recording of meeting and circulation of minutes and follow up on actions and outcomes to support the program.
  • Develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships and networks to support project activities and promote positive outcomes to ensure project objectives are achieved.
  • Represent the department on relevant committees and facilitate working groups to ensure key project deliverable and timeframes are achieved.
