Job Description

Role: Housing SME Consultant - Freelance Role

Consulting Seniority: Consultant - Partner

Day rate: Up to 450/day (outside IR35)

Location: Hybrid in London

Were partnered with a boutique consultancy that specialises in delivering transformation projects within the public sector. Were seeking an experienced SME-level Consultant to support a housing team on a project requiring deep knowledge of the housing association sector. This role demands someone who can quickly understand and navigate the operational legal and regulatory landscape of social housing.

The opportunity is ideal for a seasoned consultant who has worked with housing providers understands frontline and back-office housing functions and can quickly add value to a project team.

Tasks

  • Review and advise on operational processes within a housing association setting
  • Provide guidance on tenancy types allocations and legal compliance
  • Interpret and apply relevant housing legislation and regulations
  • Assess the operational impact of proposed policy or system changes
  • Liaise with internal teams to improve tenant services lettings and repairs workflows
  • Translate complex housing terminology into actionable insight for non-specialist teams
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of housing transformation or improvement initiatives
  • Support documentation or reporting related to compliance risk or service design

Requirements

  • An independent consultant available from early July
  • Proven experience working with or within a housing association
  • Strong understanding of sector-specific terminology policies and operations
  • Familiarity with tenancy types tenant categories and building types common in social housing
  • Knowledge of relevant legal frameworks (e.g. Housing Act tenancy law)
  • Ability to assess and explain the operational impact of housing processes and decisions

- Consultant; Senior Consultant; Manager; Senior Manager; Director; Partner
