Position Title: Education Director

Wage range: Commensurate on qualifications & experience

Location: Jones Road Ladysmith BC

Reporting to: Board of Directors

Weekly schedule: Monday - Friday

Hours/Day: 8 hours; flexibility required based on work demands

We provide learning opportunities for all ages from infancy through to elder years through our dynamic and integrated programs: Nutsuumat Lelum Stzuminus Primary School Stzuminus Community School Post-Secondary & Continuing Education Land-based Learning Year 13/adults Career Planning and job readiness.

Position summary

SES is looking for an Education Director. This role is responsible for directly supervising all learning/education instruction human resources facilities and finances. Works with Stzuminus Education stakeholders and various constituents to ensure that SES continues to meet the needs and priorities of the Nation.

Candidate profile

You have previous relational experience in Indigenous Education and are open minded and receptive to new experiences. Ready to embrace and lead change. Your heart and passion are calling to work in Indigenous Education and you embrace a holistic approach to education. Recognizing that community culture and traditions are integral to Indigenous Education you embody this vision.

You are willing to support learn and be part of the Hulquminum language initiatives to generate language speakers.

What you brin g

  • Masters degree in education/currently enrolled in a masters Program/Education administration or equivalent degree in a relevant field
  • School based and leadership experience well refined and experienced Educator
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn the 0-3 educational setting and knowledge or willingness to learn post-secondary and higher education settings and requirements
  • Ability to promote support and lead innovation and change that will result in improved success for students and staff
  • Expertise and commitment in doing meaningful consultation collaboration and team building throughout the education system education community and promote professional learning.
  • Fiscal responsibility and overall accountability
  • Committed to equity for all learners and an advocate for inclusive practices
  • Understanding the power of teaching and the impact a positive learning environment has on student equity and achievement
  • Being an innovator who encourages new ideas expects continuous improvement and seeks solutions.
  • Modeling an inspirational leadership style that instills trust and respect puts people at ease and inspires personal commitment in the building of a common vision
  • Possessing superior listening and communication skills excellent judgement and a high-level ethics honesty and personal integrity.
  • Demonstrating strong emotional intelligence with the ability to exhibit outstanding social awareness and relationship management skills
  • Being able to deal with competing interests
  • Recognizing the importance of being visible and involved in the community
  • Demonstrating strong working knowledge of financial management principles and the importance of meeting student needs within a board approved budget
  • Providing leadership and guidance at the board table ensuring sufficient information is provided to the board for the board to make informed decisions
  • Support strategies based on current research data including academic social and career development that are up to date and conversant with educational research
  • Possesses strong working knowledge of the BC curriculum and the current Ministry of Education initiatives and First Nations education environment of BC
  • Able to pass a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
