The Market Cashier Supervisor assists in the daily operation and supervision of La Sierra Natural Foods Market and staff. Responsible for training and supervision of cashier staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides a high level of prompt and friendly customer service including greeting and responding to questions.
- Trains and supervises student staff including cashiers and other workers.
- Oversees the packaging of bulk foods.
- Ensures accuracy and updates of IT Retail System.
- Operates and oversees cash register/POS system ensuring all cashiers are aware of any updates or changes.
- Opens/closes store on assigned days ensuring accuracy of reports and accounting.
- Receives product deliveries ensuring order and invoice accuracy.
- Maintains knowledge of weekly sale items; gives customers direction of product location throughout the store.
- Maintains excellent communication with store management team student employees and customers at all times.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of grocery business.
- Working knowledge of the following: cash register and other store equipment.
- Knowledge of modern office equipment including telephone communications office systems and record keeping.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions and to deal with problems as they arise.
- Ability to perform basic math skills use decimals to compute ratios and percents and to draw and interpret graphs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to use tact and diplomacy and exude a positive image as well as effective customer service. Ability to communicate in languages other than English would be helpful.
- Finger dexterity-using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing picking up objects or pinching fingers together.
- Ability to talk especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately.
- Average hearing able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
- Average visual ability- average ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products or operate machinery.
- Must be in good physical condition and able to lift and carry objects/equipment etc. up to 50 pounds.
- Able to bend body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist (stooping).
- Able to bend legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees (kneeling).
- Able to bend the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine (crouching).
- Able to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Able to remain upright on the feet particularly for sustained periods of time.
- Able to move about on foot to accomplish tasks particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
- Able to use upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward downward or outward.
- Able to use upper extremities to exert force in order to draw drag haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
- Able to raise objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.
- Able to pick pinch type or otherwise work primarily with fingers rather that with whole hand or arm as in handling.
- Able to apply pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
Credentials and Experience
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent
- At least two years of on-the-job training or
- Three to five years experience is desired.
Special Requirements
- Some after hour work required as needed or during emergencies and
- Heavy work must be able to exert up to 50pounds of force occasionally and/or a up to 25pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects and
- Able to be exposed to indoor and outdoor elements and chemical electrical mechanical explosive radiant hazards.
Wage Range: $17.51 to $18.75 per hour plus generous benefits
