This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - Youth Services- Brennan House
Good Shepherd Centres Hamilton a ministry of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God strives to enhance the quality of life for all who seek assistance and support in our community. Youth Services Brennan House is an 8-bed facility for youth aged 15-18 with complex mental health issues. Staff at Brennan house develop individualized treatment plans to support or enhance youth with their integration into the community. Youth have barrier free access to mental health clinician and individualized clinically informed care. Staff members support clients to reach personal goals and to have a satisfying and meaningful life in the community.
How You Will Make an Impact
In this role you will work to make a difference in the lives of Clients living at Youth Services. Services to clients include assessment planning crisis prevention and intervention supportive counselling education advocacy social/recreational programming life skills teaching i.e. cooking and linkages with other community services. The successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to the mission values of availability flexibility adaptability hospitality and dignity.
Responsible for participating in Good Shepherds Health and Safety programs procedures procedures and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd
What Youll Bring to Our Team
- A post-secondary degree/diploma in social work/social services/child and youth services etc.
- Demonstrated knowledge/experience of working with transitional-aged youth youth homelessness and substance use/abuse
- Knowledge of and experience working in residential treatment for Children under the Ministry Guidelines are a plus
- A proven ability to work independently taking initiative and thinking creatively are required
- Fluency in French and/or another language(s) is also an asset
- CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required
- Good judgement problem-solving and assessment skills
- Committed to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good Shepherd
- Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety practices and understanding of an employees responsibility under current legislation
