Location: Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter School Bethlehem PA
Schedule: Full-Time 10-month position paid over 12 months
Start Date: August 11 2025
Salary Range: $58000 to $60750
Certification Required: Pennsylvania English 712 Certification
Education Preferred: Undergraduate degree in English
Position Summary:
Lehigh Valley Academy (LVA) is seeking a full-time English teacher to join our high school instructional team. This position will focus on delivering LVAs 9th and 10th grade literature curriculum which is rooted in inquiry-based learning and aligned with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP).
Students in these courses engage in close reading analytical writing collaborative discussions and creative expression through a variety of literary genresincluding short stories novels nonfiction poetry drama and visual and audio media. Instruction will emphasize the development of critical thinking skills exploration of authorial techniques and contextual interpretation based on historical and cultural relevance. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for literature and a commitment to cultivating confident reflective and independent readers and writers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach 9th and 10th grade literature and writing as part of LVAs MYP Programme
- Foster student growth in reading writing speaking listening viewing and presenting
- Guide students in both collaborative and independent exploration of literary texts
- Lead students in analysis of authors creative craft including structure language and literary techniques
- Integrate relevant media and global perspectives into instruction
- Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment aligned with the IB learner profile
- Collaborate with colleagues in the English department and across disciplines
- Provide timely feedback and support student development through meaningful assessments
Qualifications:
- Valid Pennsylvania English 712 Certification (required)
- Bachelors degree in English or related field (preferred)
- Classroom teaching experience at the high school level (preferred)
- Knowledge of literary analysis writing instruction and differentiated learning strategies
- Strong communication organization and collaboration skills
