Job Description

KOMAN Construction is currently seeking a dedicated and self-motivated professional to apply their skills and experience as a Construction Safety Officer to support the CBP Project in Del Rio Texas. The incumbent must be able to pass the military background check to gain access to the base.

All construction sites are generally prone to accidents and thus safety at the construction site cannot be compromised.

This position has the difficult task of ensuring workplace safety using thorough knowledge of all laws and regulations concerning construction and site safety. The main responsibilities are supporting and providing direction to both Site employees and the Construction Manager on Safety matters taking the lead to identify and correct if required any hazard assessments or provide safety training if lacking hosting safety meetings with subcontractors and vendors that are on our Construction Sites.

Essential Functions:

Provide safety support and leadership to all employees

  • Provide safe working conditions for all workers sub-trades and visitors on/around the site
  • Enforce all established safety regulations and safe work practices
  • Recommend disciplinary action when necessary to ensure compliance with the rules
  • Ensure that trade workers are oriented with the site and its safety regulations
  • Provide instructions to workers on safe work procedures (i.e. How to use personal protective equipment as appropriate e.g. hard hats vests hearing protection safety glasses safety-toed boots or other items deemed necessary)
  • Provide educational training and seminars to all employees
  • Provide support and administrative assistance on safety-related compliance projects safety oversight Accident Prevention Plan (APP)
  • Enforcing and adherence to EM
  • Correct physical conditions which are liable to cause or have caused accidents
  • Undertake the investigation of accidents incidents or near misses to determine the underlying causes. Complete the necessary forms to document these incidents immediately
  • Conduct regular on-site hazard assessments. Identify hazards and unsafe work practices and provide recommendations on how to eliminate these issues
  • Work in cooperation with other project supervisory personnel to determine procedures for dealing with safety violations.
  • Provide weekly safety reports to the Safety Manager
  • Assist in performing compliance audits and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety and Safety Policy.
  • Ensure daily and weekly safety meetings are preformed and documented for all site employees and subcontractors
  • Cooperate with the rest of the team in order to achieve common objectives.
  • Set a good example demonstrate a positive safety attitude and abide by the Safety Code of Ethics.
  • Report any anticipated loss of work time to Management as soon as possible after an injury has occurred
  • Maintain and encourage good housekeeping on all job sites
  • Responsible for the daily administration of the Safety Program
  • Post all Safety bulletins Safety posters and Safety rules and regulations
  • Ensure that pertinent safety inspections/reports are submitted as required
  • Ensure that corrective action is taken whenever deficiencies are identified
  • Conduct in house safety training
  • Keep up with current knowledge of safety literature regulations and codes or practice
  • Review accident reports to stay informed and up to date on safety issues
  • Review and implement safety manual

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or higher or commensurate experience in a technical field will be given strong consideration

Required Qualifications:

Experience in the Construction Environmental Geotechnical or Industrial Markets are preferred

  • Proficiency in MS Office including Word Excel Power Point and Outlook is required.
  • Proficiency with Software Systems: Dropbox Procore RS Means Etc.
  • Strong computer skills including scheduling software and Microsoft Office products
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning resource allocation leadership techniques production methods coordination of people and resources project management estimating accounting human resources administration bidding & marketing.
  • Knowledge of materials methods and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings highways and roads.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment selection training compensation and benefits labor relations and negotiations.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment policies procedures and strategies to promote effective business operations leadership and management.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb ladders or stairs; use hands to type finger handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl; and get in and out of vehicles. The employee is frequently required sometimes for extended periods to walk stand or sit. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers filing cabinets and fax machines. The employee must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently. Visual acuity requirements include color vision depth perception close vision distance vision and the ability to adjust focus all of which may be necessary to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work prepare and analyze data and figures investigate small parts or defects and review materials for extensive time periods.

The employee will be subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions; hazards such as moving mechanical parts working on scaffolding and high places etc.; atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system or skin; and narrow passageways and other areas that could cause claustrophobia. The work environment and worksites may include construction sites job site trailers offices or other locations. Noise level is generally moderate to high. Work often requires work boots safety goggles and hard hat. Typical hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM however hours can fluctuate depending on project needs to include evenings nights and weekends. Travel to construction worksites and business meetings will be required. Travel will entail overnight stays with some including multiple nights away from home.
