About the Role
Based at North Fitzroy PARC and doing some cross site working at Footbridge CCU you will provide a peer support service to consumers who have a mental illness and co-occurring substance use issues. Developing and facilitating group work participating in continuous improvement and service development are part of the role. Providing peer AOD education sessions is also part of the role.
- Provide a high level of support to consumers and assist with complex consumer relationships
- Attend consumer groups as necessary to build relationships with consumers
- Education training and orientation of staff graduates and students on the peer worker role and integrated care.
Classifications for this position will range from MP36 - MP39 ($76086 - $83168 per annum pro rata)

- Demonstrated ability in leadership and coordination of projects and group facilitation
- A valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check or willing to obtain

About North Fitzroy PARC
The Prevention and Recovery Care (PARC) provides short term sub-acute intensive residential services with a recovery focus to consumers who require additional support early in relapse or following an acute in patient admission. The service is run in partnership with Wellways Australia.
The service operates under the principles of recovery orientated practice utilising the strengths model.
The team is creative imaginative and committed to supporting consumers to realise their recovery goals and move forward in their lives.

St. Vincents Mental Health (SVMH) includes an adult area mental health service for the inner city areas of Yarra and Boroondara. The adult mental health service components are: Primary Intervention and Care the Footbridge Community Care Unit (CCU) the North Fitzroy Prevention and Recovery Care service (PARC) the 44 bed Acute Inpatient Service (AIS) located on the St. Vincents Hospital site and two community mental health services (CMHS) at Hawthorn and East Melbourne (Clarendon CMHS). Community mental health services comprise the Triage and Crisis assessment and Treatment (CAT) service Extended Triage and MH-HARP Continuing Care (CCT) Mobile Support and Treatment (MST) and Homeless Outreach (CHOPS) services. A Consultation & Liaison Service is provided to the health service. NEXUS Dual Diagnosis Service the Body Image and Eating Disorders Assessment and Treatment Service (BETRS) and NEVIL Training Cluster are regional services. Statewide services are the Victorian Dual Disability Service the Victorian Transcultural Mental Health and Dual Diagnosis Education and Training Unit. The Acute Inpatient Service includes 5 beds designated as the Koori State-wide Inpatient Service and linked to the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service.
All St Vincents Mental Health clinical staff are expected to be familiar with and practice in a manner consistent with the National Practice Standards for the Mental Health Workforce.
Under the guidance of the Manager and Team Leader and in conjunction with team members you will provide a high standard of individualised lived and living experience support to consumers at North Fitzroy PARC and Footbridge CCU. Facilitating therapeutic group work in AOD integrated care for consumers.
Take an active role in the promotion and further development of the integrated care approach within both services.
The Senior Peer Support Worker Integrated Care will work across two sites North Fitzroy PARC and Footbridge CCU the sites are within 5 minute drive from each other.
- Support clinical staff to enhance the recovery focus for consumers and attend joint consumer reviews as requested
- Actively participate in clinical reviews strengths brainstorming sessions and RRP at Footbridge CCU.
- Actively participant in reflective practice and other relevant meetings as required at PARC.
- Contribute effectively to the ongoing use of the Strengths Model and recovery orientation
- Use experience to support consumer involvement in decision making at an individual and team level regarding service options
- Contribute to the planning of appropriate supports for consumers
- Provide a high level of support to consumers and assist with complex consumer relationships
- Attend consumer groups as necessary to build relationships with consumers
- Education training and orientation of staff graduates and students on the peer worker role and integrated care.
- Provide role modelling of alternative strategies and engagement styles to staff
- In collaboration with mental health clinicians refer consumer individuals to community education programs and other community services as appropriate
- Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external shareholders and advocate for consumers to internal and external stakeholders
- Exercise autonomy in decision-making and be relied on by others to provide communication guidance in area of operation (peer support)
- Provide support to the LLE workforce attend regular LLEW meetings contribute to the further development/implementation of the LLEW Strategy and development of LLEW/peer workforce training and education including supervision and reflective practice.
- Provide assistance where applicable for consumers to ensure that the service gains feedback about their experiences.
- Ensure maintenance of documentation accountability requirement including client records.
- Contribute to and co-design the development of group programs and participate (co-deliver) in the delivery of group programs.
- Develop and activily participate in the evaluation of the Peer led programs and activities.
- Participate in the development of strategies (in conjunction with team and senior staff) to enhance the quality of service delivered at PARC and CCU.
- Contribute to quality improvement policy and program development in integrated care program from a consumer perspective and interpret and apply policy to area of responsibility
- Contribute to community development including advocacy negotiation and development of community linkages
- Facilitate consumer access to complaint resolution processes.
- From a LLEW perspective support consumers with their integrated care needs.
- Supervise Level 1 and 2 Lived Experience Workers where needed
- Provide internal Consumer Perspective Supervision where endorsed to do so

- At least two years experience in a Mental Health or AOD Lived/Living Experience Workforce (LLEW) Role
- Evidence of knowledge skills and experience in the recovery approach to substance use and addiction and mental health challenges.
- Appropriate IT skills including Microsoft office suite
OTHER NON ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Tertiary qualification in a social science or related discipline is desirable or experience working in a recovery oriented AOD & health environment
- Completion of Intentional Peer Support training or other relevant peer support training such as the Hearing Voices Approach.
