Job Description
Job Title: Senior Backend Engineer Python
Location: 100% Remote Canada
Experience: 7 to 10 Years
Role Summary
We are hiring for this role where the selected candidate will work on our clients project focused on building scalable backend systems and distributed data infrastructure. The role offers a chance to contribute to impactful product decisions while working with a high-performing engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Help shape engineering strategy and contribute to backend architecture at scale
- Design backend systems with a product-focused mindset aligned to business needs
- Build and maintain high-performance fault-tolerant services in a distributed environment
- Investigate and fix complex production issues through fast iterative improvements
- Lead backend design reviews and suggest optimal technologies and patterns
- Write clean maintainable code and review peers contributions for quality and consistency
- Automate cloud infrastructure and observability workflows
- Develop CI/CD pipelines and enable automated test coverage
- Mentor junior team members and foster an inclusive collaborative culture
- Promote engineering best practices across the team
Must-Have Skills
- Strong experience building scalable backend systems using Python
- Solid hands-on experience with Apache Spark and Airflow
- Proficient with SQL and relational database design
- Experience with public cloud platforms (preferably AWS)
- Skilled in Git Jenkins Ansible and Terraform
- Familiar with containerization and infrastructure-as-code principles
- Confident in diagnosing issues in distributed systems
- Effective communicator with a problem-solving mindset
- 7 to 10 Years of experience in backend development and cloud computing
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Bonus if youve worked with Hadoop internals or Spark source code
- Experience with Hive DBT MapReduce or Snowflake is a plus
- Familiarity with microservices architecture
- Exposure to load performance or resiliency testing
