Job Description

Description

This position provides support to supervisor and other staff by assisting with the installation maintenance and troubleshooting of access control systems classroom technology and campus network infrastructure. The role involves hands-on technical support across access control A/V technology and network cabling to ensure smooth operations in all university-affiliated spaces. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Essential Job Duties

  • Installation and maintenance of access control components (door readers controllers etc.);
  • Installation and maintenance of classroom A/V systems setup diagnostics and configuration;
  • Installation terminating and testing network/fiber cabling;
  • Respond to and resolve tickets pertaining to network instructional technology and access control issues;
  • Assist helpdesk in troubleshooting issues within the transact system;
  • Assist in preparing reports for audits and investigations as needed;
  • Assist in maintaining technical documentation and diagnostic software libraries;
  • Provide backup support for major campus events requiring tech setup;
  • Maintain work documentation using currently-utilized helpdesk system;
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • Assist other departmental staff as needed;
  • Represent the department and university at a variety of on- or off-campus meetings conferences etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma/equivalent is required;
  • Associates degree and/or bachelors degree is preferred;
  • College coursework in network technology or related field OR certifications (listed below) required;
  • Minimum of six months of work-related experience is required.

LICENSES CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
A Network or other related network or A/V certification is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Basic understanding of network infrastructure including Cat6 and fiber cabling;
  • Ability to terminate network connections;
  • Understanding of A/V setups including projectors speakers and smart boards;
  • Ability to terminate connectors for A/V components;
  • Basic understanding of access control systems and associated hardware;
  • Ability to terminate connectors for access control components;
  • Basic knowledge of the operating principles of the internet;
  • Knowledge of computer and computer accessories repair;
  • An understanding of software/hardware compatibility issues within a networked architecture;
  • Ability to troubleshoot computer/network problems;
  • Ability to use the internet discriminatingly to research problems and find appropriate solutions;
  • Ability to operate a work order system Microsoft OS Apple OS and associated apps;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Strong interpersonal organizational and customer service skills;
  • Ability to coordinate well with other departments and fellow employees and provide assistance to others;
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written verbal and diagram form;
  • Ability to adapt and upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions;
  • Strong problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to work within time constraints and to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and written;
  • Ability to communicate effectively to instruct or train others through explanation and/or demonstration;
  • Ability to interpret documents and manage interpersonal conflict situations requiring tact diplomacy and discretion;
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse array of students faculty staff administrators fellow co-workers and the public;
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions inquiries and /or complaints
  • Ability to work overtime hours as requested during nights and/or weekends.
