College Adviser
Non-union at-will position
POSITION SUMMARY
This individual will work directly with high school juniors and seniors to assist them in creating comprehensive post-secondary plans including college applications FAFSA completion and career exploration. The College Adviser will be assigned to three local area high schools and will report to the Supervisor of College and Career Programs playing a vital role in supporting St. Clair County students as they prepare for life after graduation.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors Degree required
- Experience working with high school students preferred
- Knowledge of college admissions processes and financial aid procedures
- Self-managed with proven ability to work independently and achieve targeted goals
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with students parents educators and community partners
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations
- Ability to create and facilitate college and career awareness programs/sessions
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide one-on-one guidance to high school juniors and seniors in developing post-secondary plans
- Assist students with college application completion and submission
- Guide students through the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) process
- Conduct college and career exploration activities with students
- Coordinate with the Supervisor of College and Career Programs on program implementation
- Build relationships with students parents school counselors and staff at assigned high schools
- Facilitate college preparation workshops and information sessions
- Maintain accurate records of student interactions and progress
- Assist students with scholarship searches and applications
- Provide information on career pathways and technical education options
- Support students in understanding college entrance requirements and expectations
- Collaborate with school staff to identify students who would benefit from additional support
- Participate in college fairs financial aid nights and other school events
- Stay current on college admissions trends financial aid regulations and career opportunities
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of College and Career Programs
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employment Date: ASAP-Pending School Board approval and satisfactory completion of the
pre-employment drug screen and background checks
Employment Type: Non-union at-will position
12 month contract (approximately 235 days)
11 paid holidays
15 days vacation
*Working calendar to include less days in mid-June-mid August
Compensation: $36000-$38000
$6000 education stipend after two years service
Fringes: Service Personnel benefit package
