Job Description

Position Function:

Provide supplemental strength and conditioning coaching coverage as well as sport science tasks for Olympic sports as assigned by the Director of Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning. Perform other duties as assigned. Must have current certification from an accredited body (NSCA/CSCCa) or be eligible for certification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist strength and conditioning staff with training needs as assigned. This could include direct team and sport coverage.
2. Assist strength and conditioning staff with implementation of sport science initiatives in collaboration with MSU Athlete Engineering.
3. Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Shira weight room.
4. Assist with on campus events and competitions for Olympic Sport teams such as warmups cool downs recovery efforts and overall performance education.
5. Ability to delegate & oversee daily operations and expectations to volunteer and paid intern strength and conditioning coaches
6. Ability to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team with sports medicine sports nutrition and sport psychology/counseling staffs.

This position could have supervisory responsibility for student volunteers and interns.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Kinesiology/Programming/Sport Administration or Engineering or related field.

Must be certified or eligible for certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS) or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Association (SCCC). Must hold a valid CPR/FA/AED certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience coaching in a collegiate environment.
Strong sport science skills (Power Bi Python etc.).
Participation in high school or collegiate athletics.
Masters degree in related field.
Experience working with VALD Catapult Kinexon and Polar technologies.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of certain fundamental concepts.
2. Ability to work long and irregular hours.
3. Ability to travel.
4. Ability to work in extreme weather temperatures.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Regularly involves lifting bending or other physical exertion. Often exposed to one or more elements such as heat cold noise dirt chemicals etc.

Job frequently requires walking standing lifting sitting reaching talking hearing and handling objects with hands.

Requires handling of heavy weight objects up to 100 lbs. on a regular basis and on occasion up to 150 lbs.
